Hi there, there is a few interesting species/varities in the world bearing dark/almost black color (pitchers, leaves or just peristome), but I'm curious to know what YOU have already seen around in Canada. It must be a little too much metal music lately (I know mabudon, too much & metal can't be side by side in a sentence ), but I'm interested to know what is around... so i could build a 'already in Canada wishlist' haha. Personally, others than N. ramispina, and the pretty black peristomed N. x mixta shown on the Keehns carnivores website (oh and perhaps a N. sanguinea at Montreal botanical Garden), I haven't seen much dark purplish/ blackish nep around... What about you guys?

Yes... that elusive black pitcher! I just acquired the black peristome x mixta from Keehn's Carnivores. Right now it's a bit on the green and pink side, but I was informed that it was grown under lights in a terrarium, so I just got to wait. I also got the black bicalcarata offered by Hothouse carnivores. It too is green at the moment, but I was assured that it will be black. And I feel that this is very true of plants... a plant may have a few pitchers with varying colours. ie. a nep may have half a dozen red pitchers, than pop up with a few 'black' pitchers. Anyways, here are a few pics of some blacker neps I've currently got: sanguinea x macfarlanii trusmundii x lowii Not a Nep, but a beautiful black Calla Lily "cv. Edge of Night". I've tricked a couple of my friends with a close up of the flower and showed them a black heliamphora

Heck yeah, those are some sinister plants, FT And good one on the black Heli, the shape is pretty darn close- really cool flower, I sort of want to get one next year having seen it, there isn't enough black in my garden (lotsa brown, but no black to speak of) That trusmundii x lowii is pretty evil-looking- is it tricky to grow?

What a fantastic calla! I have 12 different cultivars? Where'd you get it? Thanks, Sib I got it from a new nursery in Richmond, BC... and as always, a super nice fellow! He's not ready for mail orders yet, and doesn't yet have a name for his nursery. ..but I'll place aside some offshoots for you and mabulon ...so remind me in spring 2007.

I must admit that i laughed pretty hard on that black Heliamphora. I could have been a little suspicious on the way the both side of the cup are joining at the from of the pitcher, but morelikely I would have been had by it too! Nice plants Fly

I thought my black calla had kicked the bucket when it died back in November... I find to my delight that there are six new growth shoots springing up So maybe I'll try that "black heliamphora" trick on some April 1 one day
