Where are you keeping your Nepenthes collection: in terrarium, hanging in the window, shelves with the lights? What else are you keeping in the same place?

Mabudon how do you forget to water a fern with your cps!?!?!? I can understand if no cps are present (my pointsettias!) LOL! Currently I only have ventricosa, mixed seedlings and possibly young ventratas, but I used to also have rafflesianna, sanguinea, ampularia and tobaicia. Sanguinea used to hang in the livingroom, about 2 maybe 3 feet away from the patio doors which were east facing, all alone, did very well, ended up with a nice 10" pitcher!!! but I'v also kept various ones in the kitchen bay window, east facing, along with sarracenia seedlings, and drosera, and now they reside(my whole indoor collection) on a grow stand in my room in the north end of the house. Just bought my first nep at home depot and put it under grow lights in my basement with some wonderful plants Mabudon shared this past weekend. I'll see how it does. Also setting up an automatic watering system so neglect or vacation will never take its toll, I'll start testing it in the next day or so..

I grow my Mirabilis and Ventricosa on a south facing window. The Mirabilis is growing wild and the ventricosa I just recently brought from home depot was a little weak (Poor Thing, it just need a little love ;D). I keep my sundews there also.

My neps grow in a south facing window in an open (bottom and top) window box just to help keep a bit more humidity around them. They need air so I don't close them in. Natural light only.
I haven't repotted them, aside from one I got in trade bare root which I had to pot right away. I put it in pure peat and it is doing great. The other I've left in the store bought mixture, whatever it is.
I don't feel mine or put water in the pitchers. If the liquid in the pitchers is too low then the answer is to raise the humidity or water them more IN THE MEDIUM, not the pitchers. The pitchers produce their own liquid if the plant is happy and adding water doesn't help them.
As for feeding them, unless your house is much more sterile than mine, they catch their own fruit flies here, etc. which is more than enough. Stuffing them full of bugs is unnecessary though adding the odd bug amuses my son so I do it for him, not for the plant.

I got the boxes at Ikea for $20 each but I suspect you could make them yourself with a bit of wood and a few panes of real or plexi glass. You can see them at www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15573&catalogId=10103&storeId=3&productId=26435&langId=-15&parentCats=15573*15714*15717 If that link doesn't work, the product is in the "decorations" category, plant accessories, called Frö (gotta love the Swedish names). I generally use them without the lid as it gets too hot with it and as the plants grow they are too tall anyways but the lid would be useful for seedlings. They are shorter on one side than the other so you need four panes of glass, a wire grill at the bottom to keep the plants up a bit and four long plus two short and four shorter pieces of wood to frame it up. There is a slot in the four pieces of wood at the bottom for the wire grill. With that at the bottom and the bottom not glassed in you get lots of airflow so you can put the box in a south window without overheating the poor plants. The top is open but the box still raises the local humidity a fair bit. Harry

That link is cutoff so you have to add the second line to the first line unfortunately. Here's another link: www.ikea.com/PIAimages/30015_PE117805_S4.jpgI grow my 3 Neps in a terrarium due to my lack of south-facing windows Zac

After having several accidents with hanging baskets, I have now switched to a planter. Those don't collapse and crash into other CP's! I just keep them at the window sill and water every day. My attempt to keep them outside was fine when I had them in bright shade. When moved, after a week of acclimation, 3' to direct sunlight, many fried and some died.
