I usually find it's a particular pot that's the focus, often one with lots of wet, loose sphagnum in it. If you can find it you can repot whatever's in it. You have to stop them where they breed.

LOL, jay got no clue what your saying/asking. I don't keep my post particularly we purposely to avoid it! these plants are at a delicate state right now so I don't really want to repot them all seing as theres a ton of em. I'm surprized I'm having such a problem as there are like no adults around(abviously theres atleast 2, but you get what I'm saying).... I don't want to go with anything comepletely toxic as these live in my bedroom, I don't mind taking them out to treat but eventually they've got to go back. I just want the buggers gone! Sib

I don't know but I think I have a pretty good effect with "Scanmask". check my post about "closed traps" on the VFT forum......Rick keehn made me get it. It is biological warfare... BASICALY I see no gnats in my terrarium anymore...and the plants are unharmed. it has been even recommended by the govt as a good natural control. NEMATODES alll the way.

He meant "are you going to try natural solutions, or would you like to declare chemical armageddon on them"

I haven't had a problem with those things for a while, but I did have an infestation a long time ago when I was more into cactii and orchids. Believe me when I say that it isn't just your young plants that are at risk. I've seen the larvae eat the guts right out of a cactus. One day it looked healthy and the next day it looked like a deflated balloon. Opening it up revealed a swarm of seething larvae. What wound up working for me was growing a bunch of drosera capensis around the affected pots. Now I know that D. capensis is hard to grow and even harder to obtain , however the effort will pay off, as the adults seem to be attacted to them. I would imagine that any relatively large and sticky sundew would work. I've also found that the adults are attacted to pings as well. I got a piece of Steve's killer P. moranensis, which I figure should accommodate about a million of the suckers. Apart from that, I've also seen mention of some biological solutions as well. Another thing that really helps is to make the top 1/2" or so of your pot pure sand. They won't lay eggs on it. Question: Are your gnats widespread, or is it just a few pots that are infected? >>> Rick <<<

Didnt know gnats were harmfull. I see them running around on the top soil. I guess they dont pose a threat to CPs bigger than seedlings. Maybe No-damp would instantly kill them if you spray it on the top soil.

Stupid thing is that there are no adults to speek of, I mean there has to be atleast 2 but I don't really see them, all I see is seedlings failing as when I look closer I see that the milled sphagnum at the base of it is moving and sure enough, I see a bunch of larve just chowing down! Just went and checked, puled 15 larve off a 2" pot... went through a few pots, I didn't see a single adult, but I see the odd one glued to a ping or sundew. Where do you get the scanmask vraev? At this point I'm just tired of loosing pots to them and want them anhialated! Sib

If they move around and get stuck on sundews try painting Tanglefoot on bits of cardboard.
