I hate dentate sooo much. Freakin ....thats all colisanti farms has......dammmit....I hate it soo much now. The same plant......I know I am a VFT addict and A VFT CRAZY guy. But I love the VFT CILIA... I love the long cilia. I already have 2 of their dentate I don't think I have room for any sarrs...All sars are too big for my conditions. I should bother with sars only once I get a outdoor bog in the summer.

Sarr's are really not too big. They are really nice as small plants from seeds. The only problem when they are big is having a cool place for dormancy. It takes years to get big.

hmm...but aren't sarrs hard to start off as seeds?? stratifcation and so on.... I would really love to buy some . it would definately make the terrarium more natural in terms of environment for the VFT's. however, problems include how fast it grows and getting seeds. I already have a sarr....don't know what it specifically is..but it is the one posted in post 1...the sick one. its in dormancy now. I guess I got to wait and see how it goes.

That is most definitely "Dana's Delight", Varun, I personally gave up on that thing this year after only one semi-succesful year (last year, not the one just passed) they are pretty easy to start and to grow but they take a LONG time to get big, almost as bad as Cephs in some ways in that department I had something else to add but forget now, I will post it later

carl, why did you give up on them if they are growing fine?? For me...its fine as long as the plants are growing fine and healthy. I don't care how big they are. Infact for my purposes I actually prefer smaller plants. kinda like a bonsai sarracennia. anyways....lol! I am looking forward for your trip and package here. lol! cheers, varun

I gave up on it cos I like to keep all my Sarrs outside- last winter was too warm and wet and kinda did a number on the poor thing, there's a thread devoted to it HEREIt just kinda petered out, and I discussed it with Jay and he said that he too, was kinda giving up on it- it seems kinda finicky, starts REAL late and to top it off mine got attacked by who knows WHAT exactly... it was real pretty the year before, before it had my cruel dormancy imposed on it, but I basically tore it up, shredded/chopped off all the bad bits and was left with something the size of a seedling (a tiny offshoot that had somehow survived) That little piece continued to make what looked pretty much like phyllodia all summer and stil exists, so all hope is not lost, but I prefer the stuff that gives me more satisfying results- this years faves would be a tie between my Giant S.minor, S x "Hummer's Hammerhead" or maybe S "Dixie Lace"... okay, S "Scarlet Belle is actuallly real pretty too, and grows VERY well for me, but it isn't all HUGE like some of my others WHEW hope that answers your question, now that I've taken this sucker SO far off topic, I will suspend myself for 24 hours so I can think about what I've done here

I've found sarr's really easy from seed. Stratifying is fancy for: throw them in a baggy with moist (distilled water) sphagnum moss in the fruit section of the fridge and forget about them till spring. I think they are sort of cute while they are small and I end up giving lots away as they get bigger. You have to enjoy them when they are small or you will get really frustrated as they slowly get bigger.

Finally someone who understands my idealogy. ..yay for bonsai CP's lol! BTW...carl about the attacks on CP's. Yeah....there is something in my backyard at home that is doing major damage to regular plants. I finally found "them" when my dad and myself were moving some pieces of rain logged wood from the garden. They were nasty looking...disgusting slugs. Tons and tons of them. SO now i am even concerned if I want to start a bog there considering there aer too many slugs in my garden. DOn't know how to get rid of them. coming back to sars...yeah....I think sars are amazing too btu they are too big. In nepenthes...I would love..absolutely be proud to have a nepenthes rajah...I saw it on "the private life of plants" by david attenborough (my fav TV celebritie) . Lol! But I guess I should rather start off with the nepethes family with something easier and smaller like the ventricosa. Damn it..carl...lol! I really want one of those plants now lol!.... just kiddin .... take your time.

Slugs are really bad. I found that buffer areas were helpful. They really hate crawling over dry hot or sharp terrain. Maybe a strip of sharp well drained gravel around your CP area will discourage them. Also I'm sure they can't swim so a moat would keep them out, too.

hey..thats a pretty neat idea. I can imagine a small moat around a CP island . Pretty kewl. Except that birds would like it as a drink station and then mess up the CP's on the way. yeah...placing a net over the CPs will help but not aesthetically. ..hmmm....
