Hi guys, I bought these sick plants today . tell me that they are one of the most light deprived plants ever.... is that a sarracenia??? bought this at the rona lansing at brittania and mavis. The person in charge f the greenhouse is nice. She told me they are getting new shipments next week...but since I won't be here..I bought these sick plants instead at 25% off. She said she will give me a call if any interesting CP's arrive.

Hey! For the sarracenia, well it looks dormant so your gonna have to wait... And don't get your hopes up for your dionaea to be a Dentate because Colasanti Farms only ofers the typical ones the triangular teeth might only be because of stress! cya

Well...actually the last VFT I got from walmart was also from colsanti and it was a dentate as well...the plant recovered and still grew short teeth. I have typicals and B52 for comparision and those teeth are very different.
Will the plant perish if I keep it in the terrarium growing this year???

Colisanties does offer both typical and dentate. the sarr may be in a state of dormancy, but they fertilize too much so it doesn't matter when you get them, they look like that, flushing the media or transplanting will help greatly. Thanks, Sib

aah...interesting.
So do u think its ok ....can I just skip dormancy?? I willjust put it in my terrarium with the VFT's? Will they die?? Hopefully not!
Just on a similar note. Will a CP like VFT die if dormancy is even skipped for one year?? or is it only when u keep skipping them for acouple of years??
How about these plants....I still don;t know if its a sarracenia or a cobra plant. Are they as fussy as well?

should be fine, just don't keep them really wet untill they are actively growing. you have a sarracenia 'danas delight' there. Gotto be carefull with skipping dormancy, but both of those are outta TC so wouldn't have adverse affects to missing one dormancy. Hope this helps, sib

Well I tend to lurk and *try* to be helpful Try not to force them to do anything, waking them up and putting them to sleep should both be gradual processes. good luck Sib

I've been arrogant and thought I could get away without dormancy but the plants definitely get shabby looking after 2-3 years particularly VFT's and some sarr's. The sundews seem to go dormant just with the photoperiod and a cooler spot near a window. By the way, I thought the sarr was a psittacina but I'm not an expert.

I totally understand that yeah....its "nature" and we are the ones trying to replicate it...so we got to follow nature's rules. I do understand that these plants require a dormancy. However, I was just wondering if I can nurse them back this year alone and then let them have a good sleep period next yr...when I would already have some experience with 3 VFT's in dormancy that I tried this yr.
Basically its me trying to be conservative.

I think either way would work. It would probably be easier to just let them go dormant though.

Try what you think is best! But I alo think it shouild go with a dormancy because that would give the plant alot of energy in spring! Besides your plant looks like its in pretty good shape! But for your sarracenia its in dormancy already so kjeep it in cooler conditions and a little less water... cya
