Greetings,
Back in October, I placed an order for 14 plants from Cooks. There were many delays regarding permits and paperwork (so they said) and during that time, I was in contact with Syble, who was also having problems with getting her plants.
To make the story short, we managed to get Cooks to ship both of their orders to my workplace (someone always there to receive them), which finally happened on 16 Dec 2006.
They cleared the plant inspection station in the US in late December (not sure of the exact date right now), and according to the US postal tracking system, they crossed into the Canadian system on 2 January. I was hoping the plants would show up today, but no arrival. If they make it on Monday, that would make it 23-24 days in transit.
My order consisted of 10 VFT cultivars, 3 'dews and 1 sarracenia.
Syble's order consisted of 2 drosera, 6 sarracenia species/hybrids and 3 neps.
Has anyone ever received anything live after this long in transit, or are we looking at receiving a bunch of herbarium specimens?
Syble, if everything arrives dead, I'll get some D. adelae to you, as I have a five gallon tank full of 'em and they grow like weeds in there! At least you'll get something out of it that way.

I once had VFT's coming ...a red dragon, green dragon with live green sphagnum moss postage for 11 days from when Rick Keehns at Keehns Carnivores mailed it (It was my mistake since I choose the cheaper service) and when I recieved it at my university after all the holdups at uni mail services. The plants were still alive and looking decent apart from a little shaggy look....but let me tell ya...that was only my second arrival of plants by post and I was scared shitless. . lol! But they turned out fine. If Cook packages the plants properly then it should be no big deal. But yeah...fingers crossed for u Rick.

Exactly It all comes down to packing. I've had plants spend less then a week in transit be useless due to poor packing, either rotted or dried out. and I've had plants last for 1-2 months when packed well. Sib

forgot to mention that temperature has an impact too, not just from a freeze and its toast standpoint, but the cool temperatures will slow down any processes too. Sib

My order was 28 days. Pings were rotted so bad you couldn't tell there was a plant there. vfts were bad too all were stunted and I lost 2. I will not be ordering the legal way again from the US. They are aware there is a problem shipping but they don't care "Cooks". Stephen

They packed the plants in a styrofoam container, so hopefully, that will help.
I'll post pics of what they looked like when they arrive for all to see.

If the plants are well pack they might look a bit pale but should survive. The biggest problem I had b4 was rooting. Also depends in the plant size if they are babies they might not make it but if the plants are establish plants they last longer under poor conditions. Rick and Syble I really hope your plants make it. Good luck Xavier They packed the plants in a styrofoam container, so hopefully, that will help. I really feel for you guys.
I think anything over 15 days in the dark for a plant is bad news. I know this isn't much of consolation, but I'd suggest that folks just go to the larger, more established CP outfits ...those that have received constant and continuing good reviews from other buyers. And I'd go "local" (ie. buy Canadian)... though that doesn't help for those that may have been hooped by " Macrovulgaris ".
And off the top of my head, I'd say I'm comfortable with Hawaiian Botanicals and Borneo Exotics.
I hope to visit Hawaiian bots in the spring and shoot some photos for all of you to view.
Good luck.

I was primarily looking for VFT forms and they had a nice variety at Cooks. Who has the best in terms of variety here in Canada?

that would probably be kheens. at one point I had like 12 different cultivars, most are still floating around as I gave offsets away in the spring. Sib
