Hello!
I followed a link in someones signature from Terraforums and here I am!
Canadian by birth and for most of my life I did not really become interested in CP until I moved to southern Florida in 2001. The environment there is perfect for tropical species and I was a Nepaholic!
Unfortunately with my divorce and the resulting move to Calgary 4 years ago, I lost my entire collection (all donated to good homes, botanical gardens, universities and private growers).
I briefly attempted to grow a few CP in Calgary. The climate being so different, things being very hectic and still adjusting to a new life myself, none survived.
A little over a year ago I moved back to my home town. 2 days ago I was browsing a local nursery looking for orchids and discovered a lonely little D. capensis tucked in the back of a water tray, badly neglected. I had to take it home.
Many hours of trying to remember what I am doing later, the CP obsession is already coming back in full force and here I am looking to refresh my skills and relearn what I forgot while I rebuild my collection!

Welcome to our humble forum! Funny how once bitten by the CP virus, it takes only a little draft to blow it back into a full blow case again. What a great hobby! There are some good sized/experienced growers in BC so you may luck out there! Thanks, Sib

Mabudon: Yeah that was me! The basement flood would have been okay.. except for the basement apartment part of it! "Flooded basement" sounds so much better than "There is water in my kitchen!" I remember you as well, I believe you were one of the very kind forum members who offered me seeds, which I am sad to report I managed to kill along with everything else of course at the same time I managed to kill a ficus and a spider plant so it wasn't just CP Thank you all for the warm welcome! I am not actively looking to add more to my collection at the moment, need space first.. of course everyone says that and then things come their way and space is made regardless... yeah, change of plan, grow shelf gets built tomorrow no way I am going to keep this a small obsession for more than a few weeks time...
