I work in a retail greenhouse & am enrolled at a local college's horticulture program.
I'm really a perennial freak, but have just sparked an interested in orchids and carnivores.
Enjoying the board so far!

Hey, welcome aboard- we have a couple members from your area, all fine folks- from your background it sounds like you are in danger of getting the CP madness, so watch out

Welcome to the forum... as Mabudon mentioned, we do have a couple of people from Kitchener who grow CP. I am one of them. If you're ever interested in seeing a bunch of strange plants in one location, you are welcome to visit anytime.

Way to step up Rick (tho I'm not surprised, it's AWESOME to have "new" folks checking out your plants, there's a sense of wonder that fades in more experienced growers- maybe not fades, but gets more complex and less of the just plain "WOW" that it is in the beginning) Rick's got quite the collection, I imagine you'd really dig a look at his fine stable of carnivores
PS Rick time to start making some fake pitchers for your N.rajah (could NOT resist man sorry)

Knowing my luck with rajah, the fake pitchers would probably abort

It might have been mine...
I had a 180-gallon reef awuarium going strong, but got a double whammy that put it out of business. The first was a horrible flatworm infestation that was out of hand before I saw it. There must have been millions of them in the tank. They're easy to kill via a chemical that is very safe. The problem is that these things literally spill their guts out when they croak, and their guts are mega-toxic. The next morning, all of the fish except one had jumped out of the tank and many of the "difficult" corals I had that were thriving were dead.
Over the summer, the ballasts on my lighting unit died and the remaining corals went south. The setup is running, but not "functional". I don't know what direction I am going to go yet... depends on finances and spousal permission to resurrect it.

Well I started out ordering d. paradoxa from Keehn's - since I was paying the higher postage to get it here by Canada Post without it being frozen, Rick offered me a deal on a tropical assortment..... Drosera adelae, Drosera venusta and Drosera binata.
So I've already posted on facebook that I needed a 5 - 10 gallon aquarium.... already had a few people say they may have one for me!
Rick also recommended lights & a glass cover. Any other tips guys? This looks like a lot of fun. Marching boldly into a new territory!

Welcome karolyn! So, you're getting into orchids? Right on! That's where I started, but now they're in danger of being overtaken by carnivores!
