Hi,
Discovered this forum accidentally while looking for information on Venus Flytraps. I am a proud owner of 3 chompers - Larry, Curly and Moe. They are the only plants I ever bothered to indulge in awhile back. I love them to death! ;D Thanks to the adorably macabre little guys, I developed a taste for gardening later, and today I am trying my hands at planting my own vegetables! The things VFTs can influence you to do, it's almost scary! ;D

Thanks for the warm welcome.
Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of a garden. Just an apartment patio right at the top floor, so lots of exposure to sun and what not. Just have to make do with that (and yeah, property prices here are insane!). Making a living's tricky here. Guess it just depends on what sector you are in.
Speaking of collection, I grew up in Malaysia back in Southeast Asia, and I remember the pitcher plant species we have back home ever since I was small. The hanging ones, anyone here ever tried cultivating that? I think its a Nepenthes species or something. I am just still learning about it all. Would have made a nice memento of back home.

Look around the local garden stores or big box stores and look for a sturdy Nepenthes ventrata (may be labelled alata) in a hanging basket. These are really nice houseplants and need very little special care.

Try Garden Works in Bby (on Lougheed HWY), ask about new shipment-this way you can get a better plant, same at Home Depot

Thanks for the tips. I will check them out sometime.
I had gotten my little guys from the Hawaiian Botanicals in Richmond awhile back. Is there much of a price difference?

Hi everyone, I too have discovered this forum accidentally. My name is Mark and i grew up in Burnaby, BC. Although at the moment, I am currently stuck here in Edmonton, Alberta trying to make a living as sawchuk was saying.
Indeed, VFT is the gateway and I thought I was the only one out there with this weird addiction.
Cheers

Yes, welcome here, I'm just north of you! For the addiction, the wife just rolls her eyes now when I spot a cp in a garden centre, go figure...
