Took a picture when I repotted this little guy. Just to show the root developement that has gone on. Put into a mix of two parts 16 grit sand and one part peat moss.

now there is a healthy ceph right there. Wow! nice sand you got there. Its sooo freaking hard to find sand here.

now there is a healthy ceph right there. Wow! nice sand you got there. Its sooo freaking hard to find sand here. Why is sand difficult to obtain in Canada? I can go to my local garden centre or DIY store here in the UK and find any number of sand, grit and gravel products.

well..the reason its hard to find is becos of silicosis. They stopped carrying silica sand in local stores. So unless you really look hard for it and network around....its hard to get. For the most part I have given up and just ended up with perlite again. Maybe for my next repot, I might try harder to get some.

Amazingly there is silica sand in Toronto but it's way too fine, like table sugar. I've looked all over for a nice gritty sand, gravel or substitute. So far I've found a good, gritty gravel but it's too expensive for outdoor use. Eventually I'm going to check some sandblasting places in the east end of Toronto. Maybe one day Vraev & I will go on a sand safari and find some.
