Hi guys,
I know this entire thread might seem a bit too offside as its just a ceph and mine isn't that spectacular anyways. But, so far, this is the best ever my plant has looked and I wanted to credit the people responsible. I was never soo happy as I look at this plant now apart from the day I opened the box to see the first ceph ever.
You know that I 'was' having quite a few problems with my ceph. Pitchers never lasted long, I never had more than 2 big pitchers on the plant at once, my ceph's growth tip burnt. It was sooo heartbreaking that this is one of my favourite plants, but unfortunately, I 'wasn't' able to grow them well.
However, the subject of this topic is to show the progress. The progress that superseeds any other growth since I ever got the plant.
For this success, I CANNOT take any credit. Infact, there are a few people whom I would like to heartfully thank for the entire experience:
- Jay: Thank you soo much buddy for giving me this baby
- Briar:
I cannot express how greatful I am to this wonderful teacher. He has listened to my stupid constant questions, my narrow-minded ideaology of growing the plant at "my terms". I have had experience of asking many people on "other boards" on how to grow plants, asking them help regarding the rajah and so on. I was always disappointed by the idealogy of some people who just want to keep their secrets to themself and just keep the success to themself. This person has totally shown otherwise, he has given us a complete round-up of his 6-7 years of experience and hard work finding out the narrow window of a ceph's success. This plant is truly the fruit of his advice. I have followed his advice: the media choice (you can check back my repotting thread), the symbiotic agent applications (trichoderma applications) and the mind-set required to grow this plant. I have never been happier with this plant ever before.
- True424:
A heartful of thanks to Kelly for offering us some trichoderma. I can't really pinpoint which of the two variables caused the biggest change, but i can say this: the trichoderma definately has a part in it. Thanks soo much for the trich kelly. I am your customer for life, till whenever I have the CP addiction, I will be using your product. You can use my pictures, my plants and any other things required in your brochures or product promotion.
So here are a few pics of my plant:
Once again, at the end:
Thanks for offering the plant Jay. THanks for the trich Kelly. But, mostly thanks to Briar for sharing his hard learnt experience and secrets. The true sign of a teacher who is willing to teach everything he knows. You have my utmost respect Sir. This ceph is dedicated to your honor.
I just would like to say this is the perfect example of co-operation, community effort and guidance. Thanks CP veterans of the OCPS for offering your help and experience to newbies like me. We are delighted to have you among us.
thanks,
Varun
PS: There is no secret in my success: I have changed the media, I am using trich and I am experimenting with fish food and orchid fert. I am using the helping hand given by Briar in the other "how do we grow our cephs?" thread.
At the end, I can confidently say that "Cephs aren't hard. they are pretty decent plants. The only problem is that they want to be grown on their terms, not ours. Unlike VFT's or other plants, they are more picky in their conditions"
However, I AM NOT GOING TO SAY that this is the hard and fast rule to grow cephs. We already know that one of the ceph masters here: purpman, grows his cephs in chilean sphagnum moss and he grows them like weeds. However, I have been unluckly with sphagnum. So quoting Briar: "What might work for me, might not work for you".
I cannot discount the other helpful people here. THis thread is dedicated to the flip around of my ceph state which was looking really bad. There are a lot of other heroes in this forum: Flytrap, Syble, Lloyd, Mabudon and so on. (The list will just keep going. These people have been here before I started and they have nursed me as a newbie to CP's and even given me many of my plants.
THanks OCPS! Thankd for teaching me how to grow one of my favourite plants ever.
