The wait is over! I love the scent I know some people think they smell bad, am I the weird one here? Willy I absolutely love these pictures. Really shows the strangely-shaped flower in a dramatic way. Reminds me of a spotlight on a stage. Time for its monologue. Lol

And I've never smelt a Sarr before. What's it like and why do some say it's unpleasant?

And I've never smelt a Sarr before. What's it like and why do some say it's unpleasant? To me, it smells like green-apple candy, it's light yet uplifting. Some people say they smell like cat pee... I'm not sure why

Different Sarr's do have different scents. My flavas definitely have the "cat-pee" scent. It's very strong but lacking the rankness of true, fermented cat urine. I rather enjoy the flava scent. My complex- cross hybrid Sarr's tend to have reddish flowers and a light Rose scent which is very pleasant.
Also people's sense of smell varies due to training, genetics, prior recent smells plus temperature and humidity

Lol well, guess I'd be ok with it. Got a cat so I'm used to the pee smell. 😅

Something about the shape reminds me of the flowers/fairies(?) from Fantasia. Do you just turn the lights off in the room and put a spotlight on it to take these pictures? I'd love to be able to take such nice pics.

I have two seedlings from the same mother (a supposed true flava selfed, looks like it too, no other Sarracenia flowered this year). The mother does not smell pleasant, but the two seedlings which don’t look like a pure species (maybe alata introgressed)smell very good. Several people agreed to this. They look quite similar but one got a distinct note of ripe Mango and its sister smells more like lemon lacks the Mango. The mother flowers yellow, the kids one yellow with a light orange hue the mango type a orange red. So the mother is certainly not a pure flava. All of the seedlings dont look like a S.flava, though some tend more to it. Only the two mentioned had flowered up to now.

Nice plants, the motor plant looks somewhat like Sarracenia oreophila to me, perhaps a Sarr guru can help you out there That's interesting how the offsprings smell different! Willy

These are from the same seed batch. For photos from the mother we would have to wait for the summer, it is not in my possession but it grows across the street from my studio. It does not look that good now . But I could provide a picture from an old leaf next week. The flowers smelled rank a foxtone or light catpee comes quite near.
