So I was just wondering it could be possible to skip a year of dormancy? The fall weather is setting in fas and the day temps are much cooler the they were two weeks ago and I don't think I'll be ready to put my plants in to dormancy in time.

There's no hurry, even if it hits 0°C, you can bring them in at night.

As the weather gets slowly colder, the plants get used to the cold. A hard freeze could be damaging. Above 3°C, they're fine and dormancy is fine at or just above zero Celsius.

I have some plants too. I think my vft leaf cutting will keep growing for its first year then next year dormancy. And I have some sarrs. Can they over winter outside in an unheated garage in southern ontario? -30? outside my garage. Inside Temps not sure. But I will make room in my fridge if not. Cause the seedlings could stay growing.

Hi everyone. Interesting reading regarding the 'Dormancy' word. I'm halfway fearful of it actually. I live near toronto ontario. Last year (winter) I started my collection. Young Venus fly traps, which I did not let sleep. Scarlet Belle and Danas delight, I tried and thought successfully made dormant in an unheated room beside a window. Both started to grow come Spring and only the Scarlett flourished. All went into an outside home made bog and Scarlett and fly traps took off amazingly. Have since added S. Minor, but kept it in an aerated pot in the bog for easier removal for wither. Purpurea, D. Rotundifolia, I am wanting to leave these outdoor in the bog all winter. 1. I was going to cover them in a winter white plant blanket, surrounded by straw. 2. The Minor and darlingtonia, I was going to attempt attached unheated garage or cold room once again. What does anyone think about this? I have heard the Scarlett Belle is cold hearty. (enough to handle southern ontario winter? ) Please help? I'm bringing in the Neps tonight as they have been flourishing all summer outdoors, but temp is dropping below 10 c tonight. Unlimited bug fest done for them till spring.

Quick reply about darlingtonia, mine successfully survived last Winter outside under the snow cover (I live in Quebec City) but died in Spring ... probably due to the lack of sun. My bog now sit under strong shade so the plant should be alright in the garage. All the plants in my garage are kept in total darkness ... I don't know if it would suit darling but I think so. Good luck.

I went from unheated garage but added a thermostat/space heater so it would never go below 32°F.
