Just about any hybrid is going to be easier to grow. IMHO, many of the heterodoxa crosses are easy and common starter plants in the genus. However, if you can find a Nutans Giant or Tequila (red) you get both hybrid vigor and some really good looks. Come on in, the water is fine They are not that hard.... bigger divisions are way easier than smaller divisions That is one beautiful plant. I've actually heard of H. Tequila before this on some other forum that came up when I googled "easy heliamphora" They sound like an ideal hybrid for beginners, except for the being rare and exotic part. It doesn't look like it's for sale anywhere, none of the usual online retailers carry them. What do you think of heterodoxa x ionassi? This seems more widely available, and it has also come up a few times in reference to a beginner species.

Tequila goes through cycles where it is sort of common on ebay(not sure about ebay.ca) A couple years ago there was one source that kept one on ebay nearly constantly. Prices on them eventually got very economical. Tequila is more of a grex than a cultivar though, with at least 5 original clone lines. Some of which are not very desirable. So look before you buy if one comes available. heterodoxa x ionassi should be a good choice for your first Heliamphora

No, its not a must. But its less than optimal. Your can harden the plant lil by lil, and it will work; for some limited species like h.minor variants, heterodoxa and his hybrids, hispida, etc. But your plants will NEVER be as colorfull, vigorous and healthy as those you keep at 80%RH, in a terraria or humid greenhouse. This is a h.minor var minor i grew in a 100%RH terrarium. Here is the same specie, grew on my windowsill Easy to see the difference. But, yes, its possible without a terrarium Cheers Francois
