What morphman has below his Japanese Maple, That stuff is terrible!! We have nightmares with Marchantia polymorpha at the nursery. Had a full crew yanking that stuff out for about three weeks. I agree that I can't seem to get rid of them as well

Yea, you pretty much have to take off the first inch soil out to get rid of it

The lettuce like stuff at the top of the thread seems to be fern gametophytes. Lower down in the thread are liverworts.

I have these in one of my drosera pots as well. If lloyd is right about them being ferns than as they mature the spores could infest the rest of ones collection. Upon further inspection i lifted the lowest leaves on my D.ascendens and found larger more mature portions of fern. I think it is more annoying than harmful but i will be removing what little i have before it spreads. On a side note i really like those little liverworts

Fern gametophytes are not particularly invasive. The sporophytes won't likely form or be a problem unless the top of the soil medium is covered by a film of water.

Is there an easy way to get rid of them? Some are in my Utricularia pots and it seems to be stopping their growth

Best way is to rip it out. You'll take a bunch off the top soil, but sadly there's no real spray that can nuke it efficiently without taking out your desired plant.
