Sorry for the late reply on this one. I use MSU orchid fertilizer for the most part and I supplement using seaweed extract and schultz liquid fertilizer.

Some plants like even conditions year round and others need changes like temperature, light, water and nutrient levels, in order to both grow and flower. With miniature plants like Lepanthes I recommend using very dilute applications 2 to 4 time per month. I do this for most of my plants except when winterizing. The slow release fertilizer WILL make a difference long term.

Where do you get the MSU fertilizer, i can not seem to find it in ontario...

A friend of mine special orders it from the US. I don't think it retails in Canada. I'll ask him o see if he can get some more.

You can get MSU orchid fertilizer at the monthly Southern Ontario Orchid Society meetings at the Toronto Botanical Gardens from this guy:

He also sells online but I didn't see the MSU blend on his web page. He's also a good source for sphagnum, perlite and other media.

I had a SOOS membership in 2014 but didn't renew it this year. Too much other stuff going on.
They don't have a problem with people dropping in for a meeting and the sales beforehand, as long as you don't make a habit of it without joining.

Thanks for all the reply guys. yea... I was thinking about getting maxsea 16-16-16. I read it doesn't harm sphagnum moss even. I don't know if it will be good enough for the orchids though. Generally, people use different ones as there is a acid loving media maxsea which acidifies media ... that should be good for our CPs, but I think not for the orchids. I saw it on amazon.com. I might give it a order and finally get soemeting for my orchids. I am already getting deformed leaves on many mounted plants which I read could be due to nutrient insufficiency.
