This was the very first orchid in my slowly growing collection. It's bloomed 4 times over the years, the original plant has mostly died off (due to a few months of neglect), but during that time a basal keiki formed and it has taken over. The keiki is currently in bloom (for the second time). A couple pics from this morning:
Those are really nice flowers. Any chance for a photo of the whole plant ?
Some shots of the plant.
Like I said, the functioning plant now is the basal keiki that the original put out when it was on it's last legs. Another few weeks and I think the last original plant leaf will yellow up and fall off.
I really enjoy the look of above surface roots, so always encourage them when repotting and mist them often to keep them viable.
Thanks! It took me a while to find my rhythm with orchids, but I'm starting to get the hang of them and results have been good.
It's amazing how fast a basal keiki grows with an established system of roots. This one has flowered twice and put out 4 leaves since January/February.
This phal has been getting a ton of light this year and the flowers are the best it's ever produced. REALLY vibrant colours and exceptionally white. Unfortunately one of the flowers got a few dirt speckles on it when I was repotting some cacti and it's a bit stained now. Oh well!
I'm going to start photographing my other orchids (none in bloom at the moment) and post some pictures soon.
Really nice flowers. I see it gets a lot of sun by the colour of the leaves, I'd back off a little esp. mid-day, just sayin from experience. Looks great!
