For me the heat is fine, it is the drought that is killing me and outside garden. We, in Nanaimo, have a Level 4 watering restrictions that look like this:

One of which I stupidly climbed yesterday in the heat and got sunburned, but all was not lost I found these 5 minutes from my house: D. rotundifolia! I'll be going back there with a proper camera soon. I also may have spotted a marsh or bog which would require some 4x4ing... you up for it Justin?

lol guys yeah BC have a great climate. Dennis, i understand your questions. The reality is brutal when we talk about heliamphora outsitu. (Outsitu = outside their natural habitat) Up there, on the tepuis, they experiment 100%RH, massive lighting, very airy 'soil', perfect ventilation and perfect cool/cold temperatures. Its a micro-climate. Unique in the world. Its almost impossible to reach these growing conditions down here, with our summers. So we have to buy some equipment to mimic their natural conditions. Thats mean a A/C, terrarium(s), greenhouse, specific water n soil ingredients, etc. This equipment will make helis thrive, like(almost?) in situ. Dont get me wrong, its possible growing heliamphora at hotter temperatures, but the plants will grow slowly, the pitchers will be red/rust spotted, and the plants will be sensitive to pest or diseases. So, why not throwing them the best conditions? Francois
