Mimosa Pudica is very well known for its fast responses. Has anyone tried to grow one, or a handful? I have one growing, I think it is doing fine. Any tips on growing this plant and propagating it? I think it would make a nice gift for friends.

Keep it moist and warm and it will grow! I just planted a new 4'x6' bed at work and they grow like weeds, they're actually noxious weeds in most tropical areas.

That's great news! Sounds like my Momisa will like my indoor setup (warm and moist near the CP!). Would you recommend this plant to be an office plant? I find plants don't do so well in my office, except Aloe Vera and Citrus. There were many Momisa Pudica back in my hometown, Hong Kong. I remember when I was a kid I loved to play with these amazing plants. Too bad I couldn't germinate the seeds except this one...

When I was in Hong Kong these plants were all over the place. My grandparents were actively pulling it out of their garden there. It wasn't an easy job because the plants shrunk when you grabbed them, and if you were able to grab them, you got a handful of thorns! I've always had great germination from commercial seeds from the big box stores. I soak the seeds in hot water overnight and only plant the ones that sink the next morning.

I went through 2-3 Mimosas.. First time it died, I kept it too close to the window during winter Second time, went on vacation and forgot to water it... during winter My friends/colleagues keep it outdoors during summer and move it indoors during winter. In the summer, if it gets too much sun, the stem will turn really red. In the winter, from what I learned, you can tell if the plants are too cold by looking at the leaves. It usually turns yellow or it curls up if too cold. My roommates keep it about a meter away from the window near the heater and spray every week and a half (during the winter time) I'm confident mine will survive this year!

I got the same mimosa since 4 years. The key is the water temperature, and the RH%. Your water need to be at room temperature+1. Cold water = yellow leaves.
