Anybody here know where I can get some Roridula seeds? I'm interested in growing the genus.
Does anybody here also have the symbiotic (Pameridea sp.) counterpart? If not, my summer endeavour is going to be finding a way to obtain them.

Someone is selling some Roridula seeds on CPUK forum, they are expensive. Otherwise, silverhill have some from time to time, you'll have to check often because they sell rapidly.

I really want to start some of these this year but there is only so much time in the day! As for the Pameridea sp. you'll probably be out of luck. There are a select few in Europe that have them but getting the proper paper work to import insects is near impossible. At work we have all the proper permits to import and house non native species but believe me when I say that it is not fun paper work. You need to get bio-containment permits that individuals can't get. Canada is pretty uptight when it comes to insects. Legally it probably isn't going to happen. Remember that its also illegal to own every species of stick insect, leaf insect, praying mantis (minus Chinese which is an approved bio-control), cockroach etc. but how often to do see them? Half of the elementary school around here have stick bugs in their class and many people raise roaches as feeders. Food for thought

It is impossible for pameridia to survive in Canada and cause any damage, so it would make sense for it not to be illegal but like you said, Canada is strict on insects. I do know some folks who order rare arthropods who might be able to help me out, but first I have to obtain the roridula plant lol.

I wonder if they might be able to hitchike on a roridula plant if I ordered the plant online.

I think all you have to do is use a dilute foliar spray and you should be Ok without the bugs.

Each of your cells is a symbiosis between a bacteria (mitochondrion) and a eukaryote. So you can already observe a symbiotic relationship in (your) person.

Yes, endosymbiosis, very cool! Though I can't see it, I can certainly feel the energy! Haha.

Hi Dennis - I hate the messenger, but you are likely to see a reduction in availability of Roridula seeds for the next few years. The site where Silverhill collects burned a couple years back and it will be a few more before the plants there are large enough to produce. Many of the sources you've seen on the net suspiciously dried up as soon as Silverhill no longer had seed - so I suspect they were reselling Silverhill's seed at a markup. This is why I think there will be a short supply for the next couple of years, leading to higher costs for the ones available. As for the bugs, it seems they don't do well in transport off the plant for long. There is an interesting thread on the topic on CPUK here. It didn't cover whether they would make it on a shipped plant or not though. That might be your only hope of getting them. I'm not sure how someone got them to Europe in the first place. Good luck in your search!

That's terrible news. Hopefully I can still find some before they become extremely scarce. Thanks for the heads up though. Do you think the ones from ebay will germinate?

Thanks Lloyd! CZ plants has some pretty expensive seed, is it worth the money?

Out of the topic: I also want to try some drosophyllum seeds, can anyone vouch for triffid nurseries? I was planning on getting some seeds from them.

I imagine CZ Plants would be a good place to order from. Triffid is Ok but I wouldn't say great for seeds.
