Hi my Canuck friends - I've been away for a while do to a number of set backs in my ability to properly cultivate the winter growing CP's I love, as well as some changes in work situations. But I am making a return with a new grow space!
I've finally bitten the bullet and built a custom growroom. It's still not an ideal space as it is under a set of stairs and so a bit narrow, but I am hoping to have enough control to be able to get back to growing the plants I love.
It has been a big project. I had to rip out a bookshelf, drywall, old insulation, and re-insulate with fiberglass then blueboard rather than drywall, then sealed it so I would get water vapor leaking too much. Here is the result.
This is the outside door. I had to build a couple walls out of thick blueboard and put in a supporting stud to create the corner. The door is a cut out from the blueboard, and hinged. It attaches with magnets and mylar bubble insulation.
As you can see the inside is quite narrow. It does make working with the plants a bit of a challenge, but it's a compromise I need to cope with. The astute will notice the electrical plugs are on the wrong side from the racks, but again, this is something that structure and space made a necessity. I'll be getting extension cords that have slim plugs and then taping the cords to the wall, and using a cover for across the floor to make access easier.
This is the inlet for the outside air I am using to cool the room. It is thermostat controlled and damped against backdraft. I'll have the rig up an air filter for the summer to keep pests out, but that's a problem for future Apoplast!
So far, the surviving plants have been loving it! They are a bit behind by design. I've kept them dormant longer than they would have been as the project dragged on to completion. But, I've already moved in some of them, and the rest will be moved in this week. Here's a few:
Drosera cistiflora
Drosera erythrorhiza
And everyone's favorite, Drosera squamosa
I hope this room solves the problems I have been having. Wish me luck! Thanks for looking!
