Do you guys think this orchid has a virus? There is some random streaks or dots of colour on the flowers and it seems like the new leaf has some very slight yellow markings.

Not fungal in this case. Those are signs of a potential virus but I highly doubt this one is, large scale growers would spot this kind of virus a mile away and eliminate it before it could spread. They're doing a lot of breeding with splash petals and other asymmetrical patterns and this just looks like something they're working on.

H20- Thanks! That sort of relives me. What would explain the yellow marks on the leaves?

Here's another orchid that has been kinda bothering me. The bulbs on this cattleya have black spots/markings and a few black spots on the leaves. Do you guys think its a fungal, bacterial or viral infection? Still new to orchids :/
Somehow I can't attach pictures. It says: "Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded."

You'll need to upload the photo to a hosting site(ie. photobucket), then use the image url with the "insert image" button in the reply options.

Virus usually shows itself as mottling, stunting, deformities and flower colours breaking. More likely than not your black spots are not due to virus. To my knowledge, most orchid growers (at least the ones I know in Ontario) usually import flasks of seedlings from Taiwan then grow them up to maturity to sell. The flasks are usually tested in Asia regularly. I know growers here have kits they can use to periodically test their crop for the common viruses, so the odds of getting a commercial orchid with a common virus are pretty slim.
