Hi guys, I wanted to make a nice little living room display piece with a Cephalotus follicularis. Here is what I have accomplished so far. I must say I did not expect it to go down this route. I thought it will definitely crash before getting here. I will hopefully update this thread with updates in the future. Materials: Acrylic box with a hole drilled for drainage, ceph, media, lamp 3 months ago, added some red live sphagnum moss as a thin top dressing Now: 4 months later.... cheers, Varun

Beautiful plant man! It helps that your photographs are extremely well done as well Any insight on your mix and what lighting you are using?

Thanks Justin. The light is a sun blaster 26watt CFL. Mix as you can see...primier peat moss, schultz perlite, orchid bark, half a handful of charcoal thrown in for measure. Thats about it.

That's a beautiful little planter you've made. Where did you get the acrylic box from? It will be interesting if the roots are eventually visible.

This is a very nice photo doc of your Ceph and the construction steps in creating its grow box.
And great to see you still active and involved in the hobby despite the setbacks that beset you.

Very cool display, and a healthy looking plant. I love those acrylic boxes. I use them for keeping invertebrates (scorpions, spiders).
@ nwflytrap - You can find them at Michael's craft store.

Dont cephalotus root very well from root cuttings? If the roots r visiable and light gets to them would they not grow runners like a drosera would in a clear pot?

Very cool display! Nice photography too. Dont cephalotus root very well from root cuttings? If the roots r visiable and light gets to them would they not grow runners like a drosera would in a clear pot? I think they do: www.flickr.com/photos/napp/14402695348/Doesn't look like the sides are getting much light so it's probably less likely.

Thanks for the great comments guys. I am still concerned about airflow and heat... so it may crash at any time if tolerance is exceeded. I am also planning on experimenting with a cooler light fixture... more compact and stylish. Will update when I build it. And great to see you still active and involved in the hobby despite the setbacks that beset you. -dvg I am surprised to see that I am still sticking with it myself. I would have never expected it. But I think as we all know, once a CP addict, always a CP addict. These plants are a great way to calm the mind when s*** hits the fan.
