Short update. Cuttings were taken on June 19th. All three ceph pitchers look the same they did when cut from the parent plant. I'm assuming this is a good sign. The nep cutting is continuing to grow. It's new leaf has doubled in size since I took the cutting. I'm also assuming this is a good sign.

So, the nep is still sending out new shoots, but no sign of roots yet. How long does it generally take before they start forming?

The nep cutting is in water. So far, just algae is growing from the stem. The plant is still growing like it was never cut.

Might root faster in LFS.

I'm following the directions from a video I was linked to from a member here. Can't remember who exactly, but figured I'd try this method first. It all seems to be going good, I'm just not sure when to expect roots.

Aug 16th I saw the first roots starting to sprout from the nep. There are 5 that I can see all around 1cm long. Just under 2 months for them to sprout. How long should the roots be before I plant it?

Looking at the cephs yesterday, I saw leaves poking out of the substrate on one of the pullings! Just over 3 months for them to show. Hopefully the others pop soon. Now I can consider repotting and separating my monster ceph.

I mentioned on another thread about the ICPS article on fire inducing re-growth of Cephs. I'm going to try some smoke granules the next time I repot or start a cutting.
Good work on your patience.

Thanks lloyd. It was quite the wait. What exactly are smoke granules? I've seen them mentioned here a few times. Google doesn't give much info on them.

Smoke granules are just vermiculite with the active ingredient in smoke absorbed into the granules. There's a number of places you can get it. If you can't find any, I can mail you a sample to try out.

Another month, and the second large pitcher has sprouted new growth around its base! The third pitcher, which was incredibly small, has turned brown. I'm still leaving it to see if any roots may have developed, but I think this one is toast. The nep continues to grow nice long roots. Soon I think I'll get it potted up, as long as I can still access my peat moss outside. We had a nice rainstorm followed by -20C, so everything is quite hard outside now.
