Cook, I haven't grown this species before, but Lloyd has and claims that it is quite easy to grow. In fact, according to Lloyd, and I tend to believe him on this, U. gibba thrives on neglect. Have a read through the following thread and see if you can glean any info from it. ocps.proboards.com/thread/5637/cleanwater-tank-utricsBest of luck with your U. gibba. dvg

U. gibba just needs to be ignored and neglected. As far as I can see it doesn't need any care at all. Perfect a toss and forget it plant lol !! BTW this was a post from Lloyd.

DVG I might just try a few seeds if I can keep a few, would you be intrested in the seeds?? Thanks for your kind offer for those seeds Cook. I will politely decline though and maybe if you have a few seeds left over, you might consider placing a few of them up in our Trading Post for any other growers interested in trying these out. dvg

Do I germinate them in the media before adding water? Also Do I need to use pure water or is tapwater a better choice? when the time comes to feed it or change the water how is it done? How would I collect seeds from this plant?

I used to keep it in a clear plastic cup full of rainwater. I'd scoop the whole lot into a clean cup with new water every couple of weeks. The biggest problem I had was algae growing in the cup then getting all tangled up with the utric.
I'd guess it's best to germinate it on some peat before you toss it in water.

Are they planted or just laid ontop of the media? I was sent what looks like a few stem pieces no more than half a cm long. they were sent in a small baggie of water but the water leaked out, that might have been a good thing tho especially if Canada Post scanned it and thought the water was something else loll !!!

Can I use a few cm of distilled water and once it grows grind DBW into powder and add it to the water for it to eat like 1 drop from a eye dropper to see if it eats?
