20 celcius for 12 plus hours a day growing season outside in greenhouse, being winter 12 hours a day LED Light and inside watered 2 or 3 times a week 1 inch in tray planted in sphagnum peat moss with rinsed aquarium gravel for aeration distilled or RO water sometimes rain or melted snow 5 inch deep pot I germinated seeds Dionae and Drosera, last year a big jaws VFT was getting these conditions(took bad advice for dormancy and lost it,) when I got it it had 3 1 inch traps, had 7 1 inch traps when I lost it A typical with a snapped root was planted in this and started growing new leaves in a few months. Hal suggested root rot but the one with a fully developed trap is doing fine, they are all in the same pot sowed the same time Last year a D Capensis trapped a fly and made its winter rosette this is the only mix I ever used A friend with MS growing his own weed suggested aquarium gravel and said he use it in his hydroponics a lot.

Sounds like they have might have root rot. Are they kept constantly wet, and is the medium free-draining? I find my VFTs like it moist but not soaked all the time. I let them dry out a bit between waterings and keep them in deep pots. my healthy VFT seedling that is doing well is in the process of making another trap like the first the trap is about 1/4 inch from the media wish me luck on this one so it does not die like the others

My VFT's are outside (maybe frozen to death). They do will as long as I frequently all water to moisten all the top and just create a pool on the bottom in a 17" pot. So they don't have to constently moist but I wouldn't let the topsoil dry out for over one night.

Do I really need a pot so deep? I dug up the worst looking seeding, the roots are only 1/4 inch long and are currently in a 5 inch pot with aeration from aquarium gravel the good seedling has a complete trap and another opening without teeth I had to use a magnifier to see it

No you don't, the point is VFT's should never be in dry medium except for overnight maybe (no heat stress). They don't need constant moisture. That eliminates O2 and encourages microbial infection. In a bog, there is constant movement of water for aeration and tons of benficial microorganisms to prevent infection.

I keep my VFT close to the light and got a fully developed trap(seed sized) If I move the light back will the VFT benefit? it making a second trap but they are so small its hard to imagine it catching anything! I need advice I was thinking raise the humidity but would that do good or harm the seedling?

If they're actually growing for you don't do anything, it's clearly working, no need to change anything.

It will start producing bigger traps when it grows. Every trap will be slightly larger then the next.

Assuming everything was done right Is there a maximum limit to the size a Typical VFT trap can get to?

There really isn't such thing as a "typcial" flytrap. It's not like every "typical" is the same. Yes there are lots of the same TC clones out there but there are also hundreds of seed grown ones and cultivars that just lost their labels. I've gotten "typcials" from people that have produced massive traps and look better then most named plants and I've also gotten them and they don't ever produce anything larger then an inch. In short, it's not named cultivars on one side vs typcials on the other, you could end up with anything.

All my VFT are seedlings making seed sized traps(fully completed) so I put them outside since it may rain all week without a tray so the rainwater will seep through the media out through the holes and between our patio boards to the ground plus it will get lots of air outside so fare it starting a new trap! the traps will get larger right? cause its doing better outside than it ever did inside.

If the plant is growing it will produce larger traps, it it's not peoducing larger traps at this stage you're doing something wrong.
