Hello to all fellow VFT enthusiasts ;D
First of all, thank you for having me here. initially, I wanted to get a VFT for my daughter. My interest grew bigger during the process as I researched and learned more about one of the most beautyfull plants in the world, as stated by Darwin! My first contact with VFT's was with my uncle's typical, I was maybe 8-9 years old. It did facinate me. Now I want some for myslef! So i'm ready to puchase my first cultivars. I'm planning to order 3-4 TC cultivars from the flytrapstore (from Matt) soon. He suggested that I share the phyto and shipping costs with interested people here. I think it's a great idea. I'm from the Montreal area. So anyone interested? Thank you all. I look forward posting with other VFT/CP enthusiasts! Isabelle

Hello Isabelle and welcome to the forum. Matt at the flytrapstore does have some very interesting vft cultivars. Do you have a plan for hardening off your flytraps from their flasks once they arrive? I recall a member here getting some vft plants still in the flask, and then losing some or all of them because he apparently didn't deflask them properly. If you do your homework with the order you will no doubt be rewarded with some great plants. Best wishes for your new plants. dvg

Hi dvg, Yes, I did my homework and did lots of reading/questionning on the flytrapcare forum before i decided to order. My setup will be ready when I get the VFT's in march. That said, there is some precautions for deflasking approprietly, but it doesn't seem to complicated. I think i'm up for it! Am I posting at the right thread to contact possible order partners? It would be great to share the phyto and shipping costs if anyone interested. Thank you

I am with isabelle on this Order. I will be splitting phyto and shipping. Whoever wants to join the order for Spring can chime in.

I was wondering when the deadline to chip in is? If the plants are produced in TC and are sterile, that means I should be able to maintain them in fresh tissue culture media right?

Hi sokkos, we should be ordering soon in order to have the plants ready and shipped in march-april according to Matt (from the flytrapstore). It take 8-13 week to have a TC orde ready. About maintaining them in fresh tissue culture media, i wouldn't know. You would have to ask to the experts! I intend to acclimatize them upon arrival and put them right away in my peat mix.

There's no reason you couldn't replate them when they exhaust the media or outgrow the flask.

Good luck with the order guys !! Unfortunately, I was one of the customers who got four flasks and despite my washing I lost all of them to botrytis within a few weeks or so..tried using some sulfur based fungicide but they still succombed. I guess my rinsing wasn't thorough enough but I hope I can get my hands on the DC XL one day

How did you wash them? I usually manually remove all the goop and then shake them in a container of distilled water. Also I use No-Damp for a while.

I'm getting a DC XL on this order, yey! I wish I can get a hold of No-Damp. I don't think they sell them anymore.

Lloyd, I dumped the cultures in a bowl of distilled water which I replaced a few times. I then planted the plants by separating them first the best I could. A lot stayed in clumps though. I placed the pots in plastic bags and sprayed them with Safer's fungicide. Black/grey mold appeared quickly and I tried to spray more fungicide and wiping it off. It just quickly killed my plants and every morning despite my attempts the mold was going on a rampage :/ I don't have no damp unfortunately. The DC XL survived the longest but only by a week or two. It needs to be monitored closely. Perhaps nuking my media at first would have helped as well.

When I deflask mine, I take a blunt probe or forceps and carefully wipe all the medium away from all the nooks and crannies. Then I agitate them in distilled water and check them again with the probe. You have to get all the bits and pieces from in between the roots. A spritzer to shoot a fine stream of distilled water would be good.
Are there enough people for me to get a new batch of ingredients for No-Damp? I need about 5 people or so for me to pay it back.
