I have some flytraps that have been thriving all summer outside and its starting to get colder at night now, and around 20*C or less during the day.
At what point should the plants enter dormancy and how should I approach it? I want these plants to live....we've become good friends.

Mine are still outside here, with many nights below freezing and daytime temps as low as 5-7C. Once they start dieing back I bring them in.

They like cool nights but I wouldn't leave them out in a hard frost. I take mine in when the temps are going below 2-3C for 2-3 nights in a row.

Sorry for the late reply here.
What should I do when I bring them in? I'm not entirely sure how to care for them in a dormancy period.
They can be put into ziploc bags in the fridge?

Keep 0-3C. Moist. Dark is fine. If there's no air movement (like in a ziplock bag), spray with No-Damp occasionally to avoid mould.

I have another question about dormancy, i have never done it before. Of my 4 vfts ive only had one of them longer than a few months, i bought this one last year. I didnt put it into dormancy last winter, but was planning to do so this year. But...it has 5 "babies" on it. Since they are not very old...what should i do? I didnt want to repot it til spring, and im afraid to put the "babies" into dormancy but i know the big one should go this year. Also, the plant is in a mini terrarium (like a really big brandy snifter). If i put this plant into dormancy can i just leave it planted in the glass jar? I have a coldroom in my basement i could put it in.

Hi Nicole. Dont worry about the babies too much, leave them where they are and if your dormancy conditions are OK they will come through OK after all thats what they would do in the wild. I leave mine in bogs outside in UK winters and they (the babies) come through it well generally. If you leave the plant in the glass jar, just be a bit careful with the watering, especially if it is undrained, and keep a close eye on it for fungal attack, cool moist areas with little air movement (such as in a jar) are great conditions for fungus growth. What do you mean by coldroom? a commercial fridge type thing or just a room that is cold? if it is a room that stays between 3-10C that should be fine. Cheers Steve

Ok, so I will be brave and put the whole thing into dormancy. The glass jar does have some stones and gravel in the bottom, so there is some drainage. My basement is very dry, so i am not too concerned with that but its possible the coldroom wont get cold enough. I just moved here so im not really sure yet, i havent even closed the door on it yet lol. I would be fine with putting the vft in the fridge, but the jar its in is so big i couldn't afford the space. Outdoors here is definitely not an option, I'll be under 3 feet of snow any day now lol. I dont know what options i have left, my garage is insulated but doesn't have heat so I'm thinking it will be too cold out there.
