I think this has bog garden written all over it! I just have to get it to my house, clean it and do something with the holes.

I've always thought they'd make excellent bog gardens. Unfortunately, I don't have the room for one in my yard. Try a rubber or cork stopper to fill the holes.

I was going to use the holes as drainage so that it doesn't flood when it rains here (I'm on the wet coast), but I'm not too sure how deep I should have them relative to the soil.

If you put some screen over them, you could cover them with soil. That would ensure they aren't actually sitting in water permanently.

My thought exactly James! Just had a chat with the lady at Hawaii about it too.

Nicely done !
I'm looking forward to see some summer pics of the plants.
Also, I would be interrested by the media temperature this summer. If you can touch the bottom of the bath in high summer temp to tell me if it remaine relatively cold, it would be great.

It is the tubs second year and things are looking promising so far, everything is growing nicely and I'll have a bunch of flowers. The first pitchers are just started to open on the S. purp (I just bought the alata so it doesn't count, may have been hurried along in a greenhouse). I'm a little peeved that something dug up a munch of sphagnum while I was away, I may have lost a few S. purp seedlings. Also what is up with the tall-assed irises?
