Mmmm, different problem with squirrels here ... they don't eat my plants but they sowed oak acorn in my bog digging everything around %?&%?

Hi Shogg - I'm hoping to try growing some temperate dews in pots soon, but I'm not sure what I'm thinking. I can't grow anything in pots here, the bloody squirrels dig up everything. I wish mine were just planting acorns. Mostly they eat my plants, which they occasionally trade for a buried walnut, as if that's a fair swap.

I had to bring in my non-carnivorous pots in from the deck as the squirrels are going through their fall digging frenzy. If you do have plants outside at risk, there are nice pop up net enclosures or netting +/- frames that do a good job of keeping them out.

.22 cal air rifle, any kind of pellet will do the trick.

To keep with the bow and arrow theme, how about a .22 rimfire ;-) I'm planning my mini-bogs now. We have some particularly nasty raccoons locally so I may use an electric fence (a like the high tech solutions!) - they already ruined my borage flowers and set back my calendula by several weeks this summer. I'm pissed at them now, gonna get a can of bear spray too for when I'm grilling...
