I don't understand what is needed to import plants from other countries. I've searched the thread, but sadly I am still confused... I am hoping for straightforward answers. Is all you need to import plants from other countries a Phytosanitary certificate? Or do you need both an import permit and phytosanitary, or CITES and import permits?? Which of the three is needed to import plants that are not in TC? I hope I am not being too confusing... Thanks.

Hey Devon I copied this over from the other forum. Was written by Chinlee after the EP order.
In short, you need an Import Permit, Phyto only if none CITES. If it is CITES, my understanding is the seller needs to send the CITES.

Devon, if you want to import plants from BCP, CZP or Wistuba, all you need to provide is an import permit that you will apply for from the CFIA.
Once it arrives you can Fax or scan it to send it to the vendor you are doing the order with.
An import permit is needed for each country that plants are being imported from, but the permit is good for any plant vendor within the country that the import permit is made out for (ie. an import permit made out for CZ Plants is also good for any plant vendor in the Czech Republic, as long as you have the plant's genera listed on the import permit).
The CITES and phytosanitary permit will be provided by the plant vendor.
There is also a soil media test that needs to be applied for by the vendor with the CFIA, just to ensure that there are no root nematodes or other agricultural nasties coming in on sphagnum or other packing materials on the shipped plant's roots.

That helps a lot. What about triffid park in Australia? They say that a phyto is needed: www.triffidpark.com.au/htm_pages/aqis.htm

Ahh, I get it now. I emailed them with some questions and they said they supply the phyto, but the buyer must pay for the permit.

How long does the permit last? I was hoping to order from them in mid summer next year; it's not certain though, just a though/hope.
