Im having issues with insects. Im just wondering how some of the experienced growers dealt with this problem? I have purchased neem oil, and applied some, but Im not sure if I did it right. Should I spot treat, or just spray the crap out of my plants. Should I also spray the media? Any help for this worried "newb" would be greatly appreciated.

Did you dilute the neem, you were supposed to do that. I use neem for aphids, and everything else, except fungus. If you didn't dilute it then you need to rinse your plant with tap or distilled water. You probably can use tap because there will be no mineral buildup, in the soil, since you should be washing to plant bare root.

Slightly spray the media, but just mist the plant with it.

First identify the affected plants. Second isolate the affected plants. Treat all plants including those not affected. Monitor and repeat. Use multiple approaches neem/ insecticidal soap / plant washing Change media if it's thrips or mites. Use boiling water on pots (once they don't have plants in them any more ;-) ) to clean them before repotting. If aphids just clean plant and maybe use some lady bugs.
Neem is not so much a killing agent as it is a deterrant.
Good luck!

Lady bugs? Bad idea, the kill all the traps on mine, and they don't do a suffice job on eating the aphids? He would have to buy extra stuff, from your input, but I didn't think about repotting. I think he should repot, and spray everything with the diluted neem.

I posted on another article for people who had insect infestations and like I said, I use 20 oz of water, 2 tspns cinnamon extract and 1 tspn dish soap- spray everything lightly but enough to keep the media moist after spraying or make a bigger solution in a large container and just dunk everything for 10 mins- including the plants then just pat the top of the plants to dry them with a dry paper towel and it should kill any infestation you have. I use it on orchids and cp's alike and they all do fine. I do think it even helps with cleaning and sterilizing pots and keeping fungus and mold away from plants.
