Hi All,
I've had a surprise deer attack this weekend (they ate a lot of rose bushes and apple trees) My Sarracenia, etc. is out there close to the area were they destroyed the plants too. I was just wondering if I need to protect these plants from the deer (Rabbits?)?
Thanks Henk

You might want to do something to protect your plants, all manner of critters cause various types of problems for many outdoor CP growers. I live in an urban area and between the possums, squirrels and raccoons, there is enough of a threat that I keep my bog completely enclosed in a cage.
It sounds like you have quite a menagerie in your area, so I would totally recommend some kind of deterrent at least

So guess who'll be making a critter cage... Wonder, this might be a good 'winter' project. To make a turret mounted, motion tracking water gun... I'm also going to try and use the egg, hot-sauce, milk mixture which you then spray on plants to try and convince the deer/rabbits that it is not something they would like to eat. Will see how this works with the trees, etc. Probably not a good idea to spray this stuff on carnivorous plants!

There are sprinklers at Lee Valley that are specifically for chasing away critters-they're in their recent flyer. The same flyer also has a pop up mesh "cage" that you tack into the ground. It lets sun, rain, and smaller bugs in but keeps critters. Out. I have one that's about 5 feet tall (from a place in the USA) and I used it with great success before moving my plants to the deck where it's safe.

Thanks lloyd,
I'll have a look at Lee Valley then (Motion Activated Sprinkler) and the mesh you're mentioning, is it the Pop-Up Net Shelter?
I like the motion activated sprinkler idea, will protect more than just the carnivorous plants.
Thanks Henk
