Good for you, Tom. I always had them die a few months after germination.

I'll try not to be pessimistic, but i do expect this too hopefully, the summer will help a bit to grow them well Funny thing, last time i grew them was when i started in the hobby... I almost didn't had any CP knowledge, and internet CP community wasn't that organized so advices were scarce... and I grew 2 plants very well, over 6" in height, soaking wet in a very peaty substrate, 3 feet away from fluorescents in a cool basement. I even gave one of the 2 plants to a friend which grew in a artificial pond, pot standing half in water and it was fine until the frost of october... I guess that because we didn't knew we couldn't do it, it worked Now i fear to look upon the seedling for rot/damping off

Congrats! Good going Tom. Hopefully with the better cultivation advice availble for Drosophyllum now, these plants will excel for you. Keep us posted on your progress with this very interesting species.
Just out of curiousioty, how old was your seed and it's source? Did you do any kind of special strat treatment for the seeds?

seeds were about 5 years old and i read a post from Bob Ziemer (who maintain CP Photo Finder website) that he once found 25 years old seeds in his fridge, which he has sown and got something like 90% germination... I sow them 2 weeks ago and scarified the 'base'/larger portion on the seeds with a file, lightly, until i see white but not until i grind into the seedcoat/embryo a helpful discussion icps.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=drosophyllum&action=display&thread=617

Thanks for the link Tom. I bought some Drosophyllum seed last spring, but never got around to sowing them. It's reassuring to know they last well in the fridge.

Update: so far so good! About 5-6 plants germinated, 1 died the others are growing nicely! the older one has now 4 leaves and his about 2.5-3" in height And as it goes I think i'll be able to 'release' 1-2 plants for trade by this summer to people which can come pick them up (as i doubt they would survived in the post, hating being disturbed).

Yeah thats great! I just sowed some seeds a few weeks ago and never checked on them today and I have a few plants that are almost an inch tall! I will get some pics soon too. Its cool how they come up like a Y with curled over tips! The seeds I got were old too and I just tossed em in for fun and never reallly expected anything! Cool though! I think I have about 8-9 come up so far but I am just trying to remember from earlier when I looked.

he's easy to recognize... metal-viking style, chest naked, always carrying a dwarf axe, long hair in the wind... . Just make 2-3 Metalocalypse references, then run with your plants while he is still laughing

haha that's too much HB, Thunderhorse (the video) is the EXACT thing that inspired that description, weird that you would hit that exact reference. Oh and it's true, that's how to recognize me. And Tommys right, that kegerator is in for a serious workout next time I head east Rug- well now that Tommy has spilled the beans about my scemes I guess I will have to stay in the bushes next time dammit
