You need an import permit, and the vendor have to provide you a phytosanitary certificate. Your parcell will be inspected at customs, and if everything is allright and legit, you will receive your plants at home. Where do you get the import permits? do they provide it for you when you order?

Thanks for all the info but it isn't giving me the purchase price of the cert. Also when I order for CZ Plants do I have to mail him the permit before he ships them to me? or do I have hand it in to the post office? Forgive me for being so ignorant of the processes. I have just never heard of requiring a permit for these.

Does anybody know of any cases where a Canadian citizen has suffered legal consequences (besides confiscation) from bringing a plant across the border? I'm not talking about bringing wild-collected CITES species. If anybody knows of any documented cases, please post them (in a new thread).

Also when I order for CZ Plants do I have to mail him the permit before he ships them to me? or do I have hand it in to the post office? Forgive me for being so ignorant of the processes. I have just never heard of requiring a permit for these. Its very simple. The permit is only 35$ and will be up for 3 years. You have to fill the form on the CFIA website, and post them. You can send the form by email also. 3 weeks later you will receive your canadian import permit at home. The next step is to send (By mail or email) your import permit to the vendor. They need to add a copy in the box. They also need to add a phytosanitary certificate, provided by the nursery. Its about 20 or 30€. Both papers have to travel with your plants. At canadian customs, they make a selection. If your box is open, they will see cert, the permit, and they will close the box and you will get it at home the next day. Dont get me wrong, ordering illegal plants is possible, but its a chance to take. If you are caugh one single time, each boxe shipped to your adresse will be carefully inspected. Trust me, i speak from experience.. lloyd: Me (pm sent).

As maiden said, be careful. I've never had a problem with very small packages of plants of no monetary value but you are taking a chance. I went the legal route for a mistletoe from South Aftica once, ended up spending ~ $150 for the phyto. & import permit. The catch was that the phyto. required spraying which killed the cutting! That hurt.

Yeah, thats hurt At czplants for example, the phytosanitary cert is only to certify that the shipment contain no pest, no soil, etc. And to certify that the plant where grown under artificial conditions. Here an example of wistuba's phyto IMG_20140623_144339 by dals009, on Flickr Another one from czplants IMG_20140623_143849 by dals009, on Flickr

Hi Guys, This is really embarrassing but I need to ask this before I place an order with CZ. Is the person at CZ plants considered an
Question 1: Importer or Exporter?
Question 2: And in the "Description" on the import permit it asks me to choose, which one is the correct one? 1. Plants/Plant Parts Not For Planting/Propogation 2. Plants/Plant Parts For Planting/Propogation
Question 3: Then it asks Do you wish to initiate a pest risk analysis? Which do I choose?
Question 4: Where it says: Is any of the material a product of biotechnology or a plant with a novel trait (PNT)? Just to let you know The plant I want is a Green Swamp Venus Fly Trap and I don't believe it has any unique traits? It gives me the option of "No" or "Yes" which do I choose?
Question 5: Now it says "Is This Shipment Commercially packaged" I take it that would be "YES"?
If someone can answer with straight forward answers that would be awesome!
Again I am really embarrassed about this. I do have a mental disability that is hard for me to admit,
Also I am having problems reading the address on the site. What is the.
Street Address?: Postal Code?: Building Number: & anything else that needs to be added?
CZPLANTS Provozni 5492 / 1 722 00 Ostrava - Trebovice CZECH REPUBLIC
Thanks -Jonathan

Hello This is not embarrassing at all. Q1: CZplants = Exporter Q2: 1 Q3: No. You dont need that. Only a phyto cert from czplants. Q4: No Q5: Yes For the street addy info, just request a permit for CZE. No need to add any specific info. This way, you will also be able to use your permit at bcp.com Francois

Cites is only for endangered species. Exept for some rare plants, like some ssp of s.rubra, this paper is not required.
To tell the truth, i never had to use any cites papers with my importations.

You mentioned that CITES are for endangered species and well the plant I want to get is a Venus Fly Trap (Green Swamp Form) and I know they are an endangered species, so for them to ship that plant is CITES required? I apologize for so many questions but let me tell you I am very great full. I am in Canada btw. And when an order is shipped internationally do they provide you a tracking number?

You are right about CITES. VFT's are Appendix II so they are Ok if they are not wild collected. If you made an order with the proper certificates, there will be a tracking number.
