So I've managed to not completely kill my single cape sundew, for almost an entire year, with indoor growth and little windowsil light.
I'm about to buy a few more sundews and was wondering if there was any form of simple clamp spot lamps I could use as a grow light since I'm doubting my window's giving off enough, especially over the winter. Everytime I've found a simple spot grow lamp online that can clamp to a shelf, they won't ship to Canada.
Was wondering if you guys knew where I could purchase something like that online, just for a couple simple pots?
Thanks

Hi wusswolf,
Fluorescent lighting will be sufficient for your sundews. Full spectrum lighting or grow lights [purplish light] will do.

I was at Canadian Tire today. They had this grow fixture for one pot, a combination grow light (big CFL) container all in one, sort of decorative for the living room. Looked nice for a small-type setup.
Also the same CT had these little greenhouse type set-ups on sale, a variety of them. Plus cute little motorized misters/sprayers for $10.

Hey, it's funny you mentioned CT as my dad just stopped by and said he'd check our local one for a small fluorescent light fixture on his way through CT today.
I'm completely new at a lot of this, and just wanted to make sure: Any type of fluorescent tube lighting, or would it have to be a specific type to grow plants?
Thanks!

Look for a "Daylight Spectrum" fluorecent. This should give your plant the full light spectrum that it needs.

Hmm, you might not want incandescent types because I think they get quite hot. Though I could be wrong! You might want to stick with fluorescent lighting. EDIT: Oh! If you just want a spot lamp, there is one at Curry's art store for about 10 bucks I believe, let me get you a link so you can see. It clamps on and it's pretty tall and adjustable, so it should be good. I have one (for drawing and for growing) Works great for a small setup I find! www.currys.com/catalogpc.htm?Category=A024B000266&NBReset=3Oh it's 15 dollars, still cheap! It takes CFLs. And for bulbs I use 13 watt CFLs, equivalent to 60 watts. Hope this helps!

www.aerogrow.com/These are the units at Canadian Tire. Probably overpriced but they are convenient & decorative, combining a high powered CFL grow light and a grow area

If you can, buy a floresent tube fixture like your Dad said, it would cover a larger area. Length depends on how much room you have and how many plants you want in the future. The daylight tubes for them will say daylight on the bulb.

Wow! Thank you all for all the info! Unfortunately Dad couldn't find what he was looking for yesterday, as I've only got a small area to work with, 4' bulbs were out of the question. So one more question: All this talk of CFL's (now that I know what that stands for), I had no idea I could use something seemingly so simple for the plant lighting. I have a box here in my apartment that reads: 60 watts, 120 Volts, Inside Frost, 865 Lumens. I'm assuming that "Inside Frost" is something I want to stray away from though? I should be looking for something with "Daylight" or "Full Spectrum" instead? Sorry to be such a pain ~
