LFS = Long Fiber Sphagnum (aka dried)
LSM = Live Sphagnum Moss
Usually lfs refers to druid moss. anything else refers to live moss.

So i went to home depot and Rona.... and they didnt have it there.
One other question. If i use part live, part dried sphagnum moss instead of jus pure LFS, would that work just as well?

If you are living in Edmonton, you can pick it up at Ellerslie Gift and Garden(WillGro 1kg for 34.99) or for a real bargain, pick it up at Apache Seed....2.8 kg or 3.5 cubic feet for around $30.00.

i dunno if right outside is an option for me, although they have been outside for 2 weeks now and top growht has began dieing off, temps are still fairly cool at times not the low 40's were can get here

thanks for the time and efort you put into this dormancy thread, very informative! it`s nice to see how others do their dormancy setup. here`s my basic steps that i have followed, but i`m no reference, this is my first time putting cp`s to bed for the winter. I cut down all the traps to about 1 centimeter above the substrate, i don`t bare root, i just stick the whole sha-bang in a ziplock, with some no damp and voila, all done, i did make sure that, a week before, i refrained from watering because they don`t need to be wet, just humid. as for sarrs, i did the same, i cut the traps off at the base, if there was a growth point i left it, and i wrapped it in some humid lsm, in a ziplock and to the fridge they go, it get too cold here in montreal, and for long periods of time as well so the fridge is the most convienent way to to so for me. Others use 10-12 inches of mulch if it is in-ground, it seem this isolates them enough to avoid freezing (0.5- 1 deg celcuis) i have not tried this, but it is an option, however alberta gets real cold for real long periods of time so i`d be cautious about the outdoor technique

Hey DVG
by any chance.. was it you who bought the last NO DAMP bottle. Cuz they are now sold out for about a month now =( They decided to skip out on ordering more NO DAMP this shipment and next shipment is gona take forever. By any chance, could i borrow ur NO DAMP for a quick liberal spray? Ive been everywhere else around the city and no one carries them.
Anyone think that 1 month of no damp in the fridge will work?

No-Damp: I wouldn't dare use it in the fridge, it stinks and seems toxic. If anybody wants to try Thymol (also Sodium Benzoate) , a natural biocide, I have a LOT of it.

Alrite, Its been about 2 weeks in the fridge now without "No Damp". I havent had the chance to go to one of the stores to buy it due to school. =(
Today however, I decided to give it a peek and one of the Trap and leaf is starting to look a sort of transparent colour. It almost looks see thru but not quite. Are these the early signs of mold? Also, Do i just cut off the infected areas if they realli are mold?

A watched VFT will not hibernate. Seriously, mould looks mouldy. Sounds Ok.

Yes, just leave it moist but not wet, cold but not frozen and don't look at it too often. I guess you can look every month or so but it's probably best to forget about them until the spring. I hate no-damp in the fridge, it's so vile smelling, worse than skunk.
BTW, did I mention I don't like the smell of no-damp?
