Hey guys,
My Heli Minor has sent up 2 new pitchers since I got it from sdeering, do Helis take long to develop coloration on the pitcher, the oldest new one has about 1 week of opening, and hasn't really developed color. Is there too little light?
Blokeman, thats very impressive!

Mine sit in my terrarium. Lots of sun (Through glass). Humidity ambient in the summer and higher in the winter when I close the top as it is cold near the windows. Medium savage garden. Drained pot, no saucer. Temps hot when it's sunny and coolish in the winter when it's cloudy. Always moist to wet.

I'm thinking of putting it in my terrarium with my N. Mixta and N. Ventricosa, both seem happy, the "msytery Palm" also seems happy what do you guys think, it never gets lower than 70% Humidity

The humidity is more than enough, just make sure you get full sun equivalent and medium temperatures.

I got a new concern, you know the ridge or raised part of a heli pitcher, kind of like a neps ladder? Is it supposed to be yellowish? I didn't really note that until yesterday, is it dying ?

As with Nepenthes, pitchers WILL die but the plant itself should be fine- it is perfectly natural for any plant to lose some of the growth it had on it after shipping/ reacclimatization

Well I knew you were going to say that, but but all the pitchers exhibit this, you are probably right, i'll just see how goes. On a better note the ping is great!

i have my heli in my terra with a ventricosa, and other CPs, i use the medium it came in when i bought it which consists of peat, sand and perlite, i wanted to see how wet it could be, so one is in the shallower end of my terra and the other is on the dryer side, they both sent up a total of 5 new traps over the course of 2 weeks and i`ve owned the for a month and a half... i have 1 t5 HO 6-8 inches away and above 80% most of the time. good luck, they`re not as slow as they might say they grow!
modification: i now have 2 t5`s and it has now 7 new traps( 2 more than last time) no coloration though. and i can say that the tips of the older traps are yellowing, seems normal

They live on mountaintops near the equator- think about how much sun they would get in such a place ond try to replicate that They can take pretty much all the light you can possibly put on them, in cultivation I opften see pics of Heliamphora that are nowhere near as colourful as they would be on the tepuis (often not the same shape either, very often cultivated specimens show effect of minor etiolation)

Thanks mabudon, right now i'm sad.. I was going to remove my ping from the terrarium to mist my plants, and the N x Mixtas developing pitcher got caught in the ping pot, it fell on my heli and broke of the spoon and a chunk of the rim This is the worst day of my CPing day. anyways, do you guys fertilize your helis? How often do you feed them.

I use fish food for my helis: tetra colour granules-they sink and don't smell.

HA first heli I got, the nectar spoon broke off seconds after I first laid eyes on it, don't despair, it seems common enough

Many of mine appear to have burned off nectar spoons... likely not enough humidity.

I love My heli even more now, I'm happy to report that it has sent up 3 new pitchers in one week that really makes up for the downfall of the other pitcher!
