I did a cross using the polen from a Judith Hindle and put it on the flowers of a S.purpurea from the Bruce peninsula. Today I took the seed pods inside and found out that they were full of ripe seeds. So I have about 1500 seeds of this cross. (4 seed pods)
There is no way that I can grow this many plants so what should I do with them?
1 donate to the seed bank? 2 give them away - any body want some? 3 try a germination experiment and through away the young plants that I can't grow?
I repeat these are not a pure species. they are Judith Hindle X S.Purpurea ssp Purpurea.

I'd take them if I didn't have a hundred or so hybrid sarr seedlings right now.

I have sent out seed to 3 people - hackerberry - kd - brian They are now your seeds to do as you please, but if any of this cross are good enough to become a named cultivar, I would like to have some input as to the name chosen. and would like a division to be given to Rick Keehn so he could sell it. Of course this will all take a few years to find out what the plants are like The cross is pollen from a Judith Hindle and put it on the flowers of a S.purpurea from the Bruce peninsula. Doug

Thanks so much doug! Question regarding dormancy [as I don't want to waste the seeds]. Can I use GA3, around 500 ppm soaked overnight to break the seed dormancy? Thanks!

I don't know. But maybe someone else knows.

I've used 250 ppm to break dormancy in temperate sundews. I used the same for some sarr's I had in dormancy for only a month or so and it seemed to help. I leave them in for 24 hours.

Hey Lloyd where do you get the GA3 at? I am thinking of getting some to try out since I have a ton of seed that it should work on.

I checked yesterday and I saw tiny plantlets! TC didn't work out as I had some contamination but the ones that I used GA3 to break it's dormancy are growing. I will take pictures when they get bigger or after my first repot. Thanks again Doug!
