z was over yesterday and said he read an article by B. Rice that said dielsiana and tokaiensis are one and the same. What do people think? I have both and they sure look exactly the same.

Hi Lloyd. Please be assured that they are two distinctly different species. Drosera dielsiana is found from eastern Transvaal to northern Natal of South Africa northward into southern tropical Africa where it is found in mountainous regions and on average reaches 30 mm in diameter. Drosera tokaiensis (formerly known as Drosera spatulata "Kansai") is native to Japan and appears to have resulted from a natural hybridization between Drosera rotundifolia and the Kanto form of Drosera spatulata. The average size of the plants is 25 mm wide but can get to twice that size. Amongst the plants that we grow here the difference is very apparent by the size and shape of the flower scape's and seedheads with D. dielsiana having a much larger flower and seedhead than D. tokaiensis. All my plants have gone to seed already but I'll keep an eye open for new flowers and will post some pics showing you the difference asap.

Haha, well it was quite a few years ago, so I have made a few big mistakes there: First of all, it wasn't a article by Barry after all, it was this one that I'm thinking of: www.carnivorousplants.org/seedbank/species/D_spatulata.htmThe only articles I remember are ones written by Barry, so I got kinda confused there. I guess I was thinking about the spatulata kansai = tokaiensis thing, my mistake. After not reviewing them for a few years, all the names start getting mashed up and I froget which is which . However, I think I'm still right about the sessilifolia thing: www.carnivorousplants.org/seedbank/species/D_burmannii.htmPS: Lloyd's plants are amazing!

Oh well, how can I be upset with someone who says my plants are amazing? Although as I told z, there are quite a few people here who have plants that put mine to shame. Still I like my modest set-up.
I had no idea that sessifolia was an annual. For some reason I thought it got much bigger. I was really surprised when the first flowers appeared from plants much smaller than a pygmy.
