Well with temperatures in the mid teens and the sun a shining, I couldn't resist any longer, had to dig out the bog! Of course with how wet its been the whole area is kind if a muddy sponge so that made things interesting aswell hehe. Thats what I started with :S When I did it I took bird netting and ran a layer from one end to another, then piled on the pine needles and ran the netting back over to keep things in place. So I rolled back the "carpet very slowly and carefully as I could (would have been better suited for 2 people hehe) I had quite a bit of heaving as you can see by the markers... I typically keep them pushed down so only the very tip shows. Alot of the smaller plants were completely out of the ground, but the important thing is that they're all alive yay! I did find out a bit to my surprize that its still frozen about 2 inches down :S So after the warm temps today and tonight, I'm hoping that tomorrow I might get to properly replant some of the heaved plants and re orginize some... not to mention clean the whole lot up hehe Sib

Sybil That is pretty cool, I like the way it was set up with ease of removal in mind. question,do you remove the older dead parts of the Sarr's or just wait till the new ones take over? (Hope that made sens) Thanks Kelly

Makes total sense kelly, I will be removing all dead bits, I hate seing dead leaves on any of my plants. but with the ground being frozen like it is, I figured i'd wait till today to start working on them... one minor probelm, I don't think the ground has thawed any more then it was orriginally :S Guess It will be a week down the road before I can get at it. they're calling for rain like the rest of this week Orriginally I had planned to trim alot of it up before i Covered it,but december still had majority green. It's looking a bit better today now that it's had some time to spring up. Thanks Sib

Congrats on your survivors, Syb... this will be the year that things get established and start to grow better... next year will be the one where everything explodes if things go like my bog was back then. It is my understanding that sarracenia will grow very big and colourful if you feed them a good quantity of DART FROGS >>> Rick <<<
