Last month, I traded a local dart frogger (Craig) for some fruit flies... I gave him a bunch of droseras a month ago, and dropped by for a visit to his home tonight. He had a ton of baby auratus and leucomelas for trading and sale. Dang. If my vivariums were all ready for set up, I would have had some new froggies tonight What I found intriguing was how Craig had placed the drosera. He tied them onto tree branches, and wrapped the base of the droseras with sphag moss. It looked kind of neat. Craig was pretty happy with the capensis plants I gave him. I mentioned that it was a weed in the eyes of many an OCPS colleague, but for him, they were nice red glistening jewels that the frogs enjoyed (without becoming a meal for the CP).

Yup. They're pooping double the volume... not double the poop size ...but extra droppings all over the terrarium. I gotta snap a pic of frog poop. The dang things are almost as big as their heads!

lmao! I bet ur beautiful new vivarium needs a heck of cleaning regularly. lol! how often do u do it? also wouldn't the poop fertilize the media effectively knocking using CP's as a plant in there?

My little tiger legs are about 3/4" now (snout to vent). I had to purchase some crickets that are about 1/2" in size... so I hope these little frogs can eat these crickets (my FF cultures had collapsed with a mould infestation). So I'm a bit worried. In addition, I picked up around 50+ cherry red shrimps over Christmas I had traded some D capensis (ha!) and some nice basalt rocks and some big pieces of interesting sedimentary rock chock full of fossilized clams for these shrimps! Whoever thought it would be hard to grow vermin (fruit flies). Mine died also so I'm not making fun of you-I let them dry out. Enjoy the shrimps.

what medium were you using david? I use a potatoe flake medium. Works quite well, I fount the secret to not getting crashes was to make it on the dry side. I had crashes at first, but that was because I made them too wet. Thanks Sib

I had used a FF formula I got off the canadart site. I gotta admit, that the maggots eating mould looked kind of neat... beige squirmys with green guts.
this morning, I found a bunch of crickets all over the house. They had sort of pushed open the small pull top tab opening on the lid of the tub.
I'll try potatoe flakes. Thanks for the tip.

I've been using a mix from rom in TO, its a potato flake based medium, works well once you find the right consistancy. Well i ran out and am waiting for more to come, so I experimented with my own version and i have to say so far i'm getting tons!!! Just standard potato flake from like bulk barn. Took 2 heaping tablespoons put it in a container, wet it down so that there was a circle still visably dry in the center from the bottom. then a decent coat of brewers yeast, 2 sprays to get it wetted into place, then a layer of wheat germ, probably about 3-5mm worth, a couple sprays to wet it down, then a layer bout twice as thick of quick oats(just rolled or pressed oats, got them at the bulk barn also). finished off with another table spoon or 2 of potatoe flakes wetted down. everything should be reasonably wet, but you should still have that dry spot in the bottom. then sprinkle on granular baking yeast to the top, add the excelsior and folded coffee filters and your good! Oh and a good amount of flies! Oh i should mention that I use the standard 50/50 white vinagar/water mix to wet things down. Sib

No way any fruit fly would eat a MacDonald's burger. First of all no microbe would grow on it.
