I'm in an absolute state of shock!!!
After 31 days in transit, Sybil's and my shipment of CP from Cook's Carvivores arrived at 12:00 noon today.
I was fully expecting to see 32 herbarium specimens, but to my surprise, I am pleased to be able to announce that 30 of the 32 plants made it quite intact. The only casualties were a small D. prolifera and a D. capillaris.
The new arrivals will be going into rehab tonight at my place.
I've got to say that, overall, I am quite pleased with Cooks. The only thing I can knock them for is that they don't respond to emails on a timely basis and it sometimes takes a TINY bit of prodding to get a response, however, the delays in this case were not their fault. It took their government a very long time to issue the relevant documentation, and our customs held the plants up for an inordinately long time.
At one point, when I had emailed my concerns about the delay after the plants had crossed the border, Kim did alot of follow up on it and had the courtesy call me in person, both to keep me up to date and to apologize for the delays.
We'll see what happens regarding the two dead drosera (I will eventually be able to get Syble a baby from my prolifera, but I'd still like to get my hands on some capillaris), but overall, I would consider this a happy ending to this story.
Now, on to CP physio!

I don't know for sure... the plant looks dead dead dead, but there were a couple of scapes worth of seed pods. I have to see if there are any seeds present, and if so, I'll sow 'em.
On the subject of magic, I picked up some wicked stuff over the past several months, including the chair suspension illusion (take two card table chairs face to face, place a board over top of them. Have a subject lie on the board, remove the chair from under the subject's feet, then finally remove the board itself leaving the subject suspended and supported only by their neck on the other chair).
Another new one you'd love is where I take a four inch spike out and have a volunteer place it in one of three bases, cover each base (including the one with the spike) with styrofoam cups and mix them up (outof my sight). I then come back and crush two cups with an open hand, not hitting the one with the spike in it.
Another neat one is where I have three people pick cards out of a deck. The cards are returned and shuffled by a spectator. I take out a sword and have the deck thrown in the air. I thrust the sword into the flurry of cards and come out with the selected ones impaled on the sword.
There's a pile of other amazing stuff too, which has left some of my spectators absolutely speechless, but this message is getting too long on an off topic, so I won't get into that now.

I'm just thrilled that this has finaly finished! I've been waiting years! I can't thank rick enough, some how I don't see myself ordering again from cooks...many other nurseries to try out before hand! I think for me, the whole cook ordeal started in 2002? I'm not sure, I just know it was a long time ago... If it wasn't for rick, it probably would still be unresolved. We'll be getting together this saturday to switch off plants, probably hit colisanties, maybe have dinner there, anyone interested in a kind of informal get together? We'll be doing it anyways, but I know, ken, mike, steve and a few others are in decent driving distance. Thanks, Sib

Magic? cool ...wish I could see it. I've got capillaris. Here I am, the guy who claims not to have much of a sundew collection, but thanks to some free seeds mailed to me last year, I managed to sow and germinate a few capillaris. I'll put your name on them, and will ready them for spring shipping. D - I don't know for sure... the plant looks dead dead dead, but there were a couple of scapes worth of seed pods. Things just keep going from good to better today. First the plants arrive at work intact with a couple of exceptions. Then, I get home and the CP book (Pitcher Plants Of The Americas) has arrived. Then, I go downstairs and find that a pot with some D. admirabilis seed that I planted about a month ago has germinated!
You gotta like it!

A happy ending. If you need any prolifera, it's easy to propagate. Let me know.

Well, heres the final imput for me, after spending a few hours cleaning and potting up, hopefully things will grow well and be happy! It's funny, all the checking both governments did on these plants is just a joke! all the pitcher were full of bugs and debris, not to mention the decent amount of soil present with some of it, and my personal favourite, all the live bugs of various description I came accross as I was cleaning the plants! My stand is now offically full untill I turn on the final teir, I'm hoping it won't come to that hehe! Sib
