Heads up that the postal union in Edmonton passed around a picket line sign up sheet today.
Not that that means anything concrete is in effect...
...just a fact.
Take it as you may.

Heard from a boots-on-the-ground mail carrier in Edmonton that her union had mandated that there would be no further overtime allocated until their dispute with the Corporation's management had been resolved.
The Corporation's response was to remove overtime permanently from the contract in dispute, and now have temporary workers dealing with the lagging and mounting workload.
That move by management was welcomed by some carriers, but incensed the postal union, that obviously doesn't like to concede and divert work away from its union members.
It seems this negotiation could be taking a nasty turn.
One can only wonder how long it will be before management locks out its workers.
Apparently, the main reason that a lockout hasn't already occurred is because the national media is currently portraying the workers in a favorable light.

The Edmonton postal facilities are on strike today.
The union announced the strike here just 23 minutes ago at 8:00am Edmonton time.

Because the worker's union is in control of setting the strike action agenda, their website link gives the most current, up to the second updates. Corporate management is forced to react, and is always then lagging behind with their update notifications. www.cupw.cadvg

"Rumor has it that legislation will be tabled today."
A direct quote from a CPC mail carrier, from just minutes ago...

www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-post-back-to-work-legislation-1.4915974The federal government today tabled a motion to fast track back to work legislation for Canada Post's mail carriers. When the legislation kicks in exactly is still up to the government... ...but it appears that Canada Post will be fully up and running at some point next week. Stayed tuned! dvg

www.google.ca/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4917647Despite opposition from the Postal Union, it is expected that the motion to fast track back to work legislation will be debated today and then passed on to the Senate for final review. The Senate is willing to work through the weekend to see the bill passed. dvg

According to reports from CBC, the Liberal government is expected to vote in favor of back-to-work legislation for postal workers, later this evening.
The only things standing in the way will be the Senate vote this weekend and then Royal Assent.
It's looking more and more that regular mail delivery will be enforced next week sometime.

www.google.ca/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4919412Bill C-89 has passed its third reading by a vote of 166 to 43. It seems all but inevitable now that Canadian postal workers will be forced back to work again in the upcoming work week. dvg
