I think that we should get this final vote up now and see where people are at.
For any No voters I would love to know your concerns and see if we can address them before moving forward.
For Yes voters feel free to add any thoughts of things you would like to see on the new forum. One of our awesome members is doing up a new logo and I got to see the rough outline for it, all I can say is that it is looking epic!

DIY and tutos is a must. I would also like to have a care guide or links to care guides in the sticky section of each different type of plant. Many people will come looking for information more than for community stuff and this can get so complicated sometimes. Can't blame them and I think our role is to help them care for their plants as if they were in the community. After all, this will also help their plant!!
Why would you need Tapatalk to post pictures when you can do it the same as Tapatalk without Tapatalk dundun duuuh diy is a must!!
Like I said in an earlier post it's been a long time since I've posted photos on a forum from a browser but this is how I recall the process. I take a photo with my phone then save it to a cloud. I then go to my laptop or desktop, find the photo on the cloud and download it. I then open up a third party photo editing software and modify the photo based on the restrictions of the particular forum. Sometimes is the width in pixels, sometimes it's total file size, sometimes I have to attempt the post a few times to get it right. Then I save the photo locally and then go to the forum create the message and add in the photo.
On Tapatalk I take the photo, create the post, add in the photo and Tapaptalk does all the other stuff behind the scenes. I like the convenience.
I agree with the DIY section! I also like the idea of having care guides in the sticky section or something where people can find info. I think this will be really helpful to people and also it'll reduce the number of threads saying the same stuff over and over again.
Hey Justin, Glad to see you going through this buddy. I know we talked about this months ago when you sent those awesome plants for the RBG events...but yea, I would support switching forums to a new and more capable software. The only concern would be long term financial assurance. I would be more than happy to donate a portion of sales of my plants to help fund it as well. I think that is a good idea. However, to be sustainable, I think some sort of membership fund is the best way to go. Even if 10 members pay $10/year, that should be enough to fund the server/software. Cheers V
Willy, Love the idea of a DIY section, I'll be sure to add that to the list.
yukondave, as far as I am aware you will still be able to use tapatalk
Samskwatch, I've wanted to do care sheets and tutorials of each section for a while now. I've held off on doing them for the last year but have plans to implement them on the new forum. I want to source them through our own members and will be sending out messages in the hopes that some of skilled growers can share their ways.
joeelliott, I will do my very best to address every concern that comes up!
craigam, what Willy said the added benefit of going over to a paid software is that if we even feel like it we can easily change over to other software without starting over. Everything we create from this point on will be ours to do what we want.
vraev, I agree with long term financial stability, I think we will try to bank extra cash for the following years as well. At this point the cost is the least of my worries as I have had members message me offering to donate most of the money or donate very rare plants for auction. I'm actually hoping we can use the new forum to raise money for conservation in the long run but that might be a pipe dream haha
So it looks like the vast majority of people agree that we should switch to a new platform.
I want to assure any skeptics that any and all problems will be address and we value everyones opinions and thoughts. I also want to add that if some catastrophic happens to the new forum and it doesn't work out, this forum will always be here, I will not be deleting anything and it will be here forever. I will however lock most of the old threads to ensure traffic is sent to the new forum.
As mentioned I think it will be best to fund raise through auctions and donations to start. I don't want to add any more traffic to the old forum so I will purchase and fund all of the costs up front and we can start our new forum with a bang
Now the work switches over to me and I will have to set everything up. I'm hoping this only takes a couple weeks an I will keep people updated here.

I'm not here since a long time, but the thing is I feel good about this place because everyone seems to value respect, knowledge, generosity, hard work and honesty. This is worth spending time and money to preserve. I respect your devotion to this community.
