Hello all! Just wanted to share on my newly made Ping trays. I know the pings don't look their best yet, I shall update again in the future Step 1 - Fill the trays with soil mix (3:2 perlite:peat for these two trays), leave an opening for adding water. Step 2 - Place the 'centerpieces' Step 3 - Slowly fill the trays with pings... Step 4 - done! I find that placing pings in order of sizes from large to small makes things easier. Do you have a ping tray too? Share here! Cheers, Willy

Nice looking trays, Willy! Could you explain the square pots in the corners a bit? You fill those with water? Are there holes in the square pots to allow the water to trickle into the main tray that way? What are the benefits of watering this way?
Thanks!

Hi atom, Since the tray is not drained, it is good to have a way to monitor the water level and add water without a mess. To water the whole tray, simply pour in water to the square pot (which is just a regular 3in square pot with holes in the bottom) slowly, and watch for the water level. I have a pot of plant on top of the watering opening so that it doesn't look too awkward. You can also put a piece of art or rock on it too. Alternatively, I've seem people making theirs without a watering opening, they top water slowly instead. hope that helps, Willy

It's like a little Ping garden, I love it! Do these guys need a lot of humidity to thrive? Or are they easy to grow on a windowsill?

Pinguicula is not picky with humidity, they are super easy to grow on a windowsill While they do not mind lower lighting conditions to be happy and healthy, you may not see the full coloration without intensive lighting.

That's great! In that case I'll keep my eye out for Pings when I visit Humber Nurseries this weekend

I find pings just need surface watering as the roots are very close to the surface. They also are fine with low humidity as long as you mist them daily.

Moranensis that I've been misting a few times a day and I wasn't sure if it was necessary. I guess I can relax a bit and reduce the amount of water I've been giving it haha.

Nice tray Will. In my growing conditions, I cover all my pings with a dome to keep RH high. I use a high mineral mix and water from the bottom so if the RH get to low, the surface get to dry. Watering from the top like Lloyd said should resolve this problem but I'm too busy to do it so ... There's many way to grow those pings, you need to find which suit you better.

I have one problem with growing pinguicula, is that the flowers never make pollen. Maybe the RH is not high enough?

The pollen is pretty hard to see unless you rub it off.

Only a few of my pings make pollen Oh that's strange. I dont know what I'm doing wrong then lloyd, I tried seeing it under a magnifying lens but the yellow parts are dry and no pollens fall out even if i wait for a few more days.
