Hi, I was wondering if these jars will work for cp's. The blue one is pre-sterilized sterilized and the yellow is not. I will probably still have to sterilize again though. They are not vented. I wasn't sure if that would be a problem. Please let me know. Thanks here is the picture

You have to make sure they won't melt or explode if sterilized.

You have to make sure they won't melt or explode if sterilized. That's what I am trying to figure out. But do they need to be VENTED to grow plants in Them?

In all respects, I don't think you fully understand tissue culture just yet. I'd also like to kindly ask you to restrict crowding the TC section on the forum with "Google-able" and "logic-able" questions. Unless you live in a completely sterile environment, ventilation holes in the jars (assuming those won't melt....) will indefinitely result in contamination from external pathogens. The purpose of a sealed container is to create an aseptic environment for plants to grow.

I have googled all these questions before posting, but can't find anyone that use these jars or how to ,if homemade media. I have spent hours trying to find certain answers. And that's when I post here.

These plastic specimen jars are designed to be one-use only. From what I've read, most specimen jars are made of a plastic polymer that will melt when you try to re-sterilize/re-use them.

I sterilized in the microwave and they where fine. It is all trial and error so I will see what happens. I will keep you all updated

What was in the jar when you put it in the microwave?

What was in the jar when you put it in the microwave? The media.

You still have to get your explants/plant tissue onto the media without any further contamination..
TC is something that you actually need proper equipment for. it's not an easy home project. As others have said, you really need to do some in-depth research before you attempt something like tissue culture/in vitro seed germination. It's not about taking on a "challenge" (i'm sure everyone here likes a good challenge), but more about your current situation/conditions and if a project like this is feasible with your current set of conditions/knowledge/materials.

Also, if you feel you must...be carefully nuking foreign media in untested sealed vessels which appear to be medical urine sample containers or something. I'd hate to see you "melt yer face off son". Seriously, safety first.

Seriously, safety first. I tested the containers to make sure they where heat proof first lol. That would be bad if it melted and splattered. I don't plan on doing this with cp's for a while as it is very confusing with the media. But if I can get this successfully done with regular plants i might build on of those boxes with the gloves so everything is sterilized. I hope to try experimenting with this. That's why I wanted to try. I don't care if I fail lol it is an experiment lol

Glove boxes aren't sterile but if you're really careful, you can use them. I used to use one with PPM, a biocide, in the medium.
