Why would you fear it? It is a challenge and you need a challenge once and a while. Some times you gotta step out of the box. Lol it does seem kind of confusing though lol keeping my plants happy is already challenging enough lol Lol! Never give up

I was very fortunate to have an excellent mentor teach me TC (she spent her career working in agriculture and TC) and worked part time through school in a lab that routinely needed TC. You can learn the basics from any plant biology lab, so if you're in school at the moment, I'd strongly recommend you seek out such a lab to work or volunteer in. Even microbiology would be a good alternative just to learn how to make medium and keep things sterile. The principles you learn can apply to any plant you grow in TC. TC is very doable at home, however I think learning TC at school where you can use all the equipment is probably the easiest way to start. [Shameless plug: the University of Guelph has a very good 3rd year undergrad course on plant TC, and you actually get to do a lot of hands-on TC]. Just remember, almost any plant can be grown in TC, but not everything needs to be grown in TC. Ok i will keep that in mind! I am thinking of owning a nursery for cp's, succulents/cacti, and regular plants. So i am thinking of courses. 1 more year until high-school!

I don't have the time or space or really anything for tissue culture lol. It seems like it would take years to perfect doing it. I feel you... I know there's home-made recipes, simplified methods, and detailed instructions on the 'net, but like Lloyd said, there are many easier plants that will keep us happy for at least the next few years That's true, but tissue culture is a lot more interesting and would add another step in growing. (Many steps)

I thought about starting a lab for carnivorous plant TC and a nursery for a few years and spoke to a lot of people in the hort industry. Reactions were mixed, generally very positive from the academia and consumer side, but hesitant from the commercial producers side. Commercial production is very different from growing at home, and it means possibly years of tinkering to find the best greenhouse formula for a particular variety; this is likely why the Ontario growers are hesitant. The carnivorous plants that are mass produced in Ontario I'm pretty sure do come in as tissue culture, and the local growers simply take them out of culture to grow until big enough to sell. There are no large scale commercial tissue culture operations for ornamentals in Canada that I know of. I remember when I was finishing up elementary school I was trading/collecting brugmansias from other gardeners and thought I'd open a specialty nursery. Unfortunately during undergrad, the plants started showing up on the market so I lost the niche.

@exoticplantseller, I'd hate to be a buzz kill but I would highly recommend you first gain appropriate funding and knowledge before jumping into TC. Once you're in highschool, you'll become more aware of how to effectively find information and quite frankly, understand more complicated chemical and biological processes. Sometimes, it's fun to think about a "home laboratory" but realistically, it will be incredibly discouraging to spend a huge amount of effort, money, and time to only have it be unsuccessful. I will definitely be willing to contribute some seeds in the future if you do get started though.

Than maybe in a few years if I master that I will use cp's. Or maybe sooner. It depends if I have success or not.
