Thursday Aug. 25, is now the date to watch.
It's possible the Postal union will then give their 72 hour strike notice.
If this occurs, the union will probably lead with rotating strikes - temporary disruptions of mail delivery in certain areas of the country...mail will still flow in other areas, until the strikes rotate to those areas and frees up the previously struck areas.
Once this has occurred, I suspect Canada Post will lock-out its employees, and mail delivery will cease altogether, until their dispute is settled or the government intervenes.

"The Canadian Union of Postal Workers files 72-hour notices to strike
Dear Canada Post customer,
This letter is to inform you that the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has provided Canada Post with 72-hour strike notices. This means the union will be in a legal position to commence strike action on August 28, 2016. Following that, they will be free to take further action to disrupt the postal service at any time without additional warning. Up until now, the union was required to provide advance notice of any disruptive job action. Unfortunately, as of August 28, 2016, that will no longer be the case. The union will not be required to provide any notice going forward.
As stated in our previous letter, this action by the union does not necessarily mean a full-scale strike will occur.
Also today, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, MaryAnn Mihychuk, announced she will appoint a special mediator to assist in negotiations with CUPW. Canada Post will fully cooperate in the process. We hope the assistance of a neutral third party will help both parties address the real challenges facing the postal service caused by declining mail volumes and increasing pension obligations.
Canada Post remains committed to negotiating agreements that are fair to our employees, and allow us to continue to provide affordable pricing and service to our customers. We will continue to keep you apprised of any developments.
Sincerely,
Serge Pitre Vice-president, Sales Canada Post Corporation"

Wow talk about the negative "declining mail volume " yeah what about the Exploding parcel volume? Internet took away the need to send mail and gave back in online sales.

For now the postal union is refusing to work any overtime.
That will do little to disrupt delivery, because Canada Post Corp. wasn't allowing workers to work overtime, anyway.

They also say that the strike will be rotating through the provinces and territories and will start by only affecting overtime and that regular service should still continue during the strike, but things may take longer from A to B, due to the lack of overtime being put in by employees. they are able to begin the strike at 11:59 EST on Sunday Aug 28th 2016
Edit: whoops I was responding to an earlier page !

"Notice to Customers Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers reach two-year agreements Canadians can now ship with confidence heading into the holiday season
OTTAWA – Canada Post is pleased to have reached tentative short-term agreements with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). The agreements will avert a work disruption, bringing much-needed certainty in the postal system for our employees and customers. Canadians can now use the postal system with confidence. This is especially important as Canadian businesses large and small are already planning for the upcoming holiday shipping season.
These agreements are for a period of two years, rather than the typical four-year contracts negotiated in the past. The issues facing the Corporation, with declining mail volumes and a growing pension obligation, are complex. This approach provides more time for thoughtful discussion and analysis on how to best address these issues without the ongoing threat of a work disruption. The agreements must be ratified by members.
Canada Post would also like to thank the mediators for their help in bringing a neutral perspective to the discussions."
Yay! This is the day we have been waiting for! Cheers! Willy

it is funny, as I have heard due to online sales that they are actually making more money now, thanks to parcels/online shopping, than they ever did with regular mail. Yet they always push the dwindling mail line to make it seem like that they are losing money all the time from fewer postcards being sent.
well... glad to hear that we have another two years before this starts again :)

"Thank You
Dear customer,
Your patience and support during our recent labour negotiations meant so much to us. We are so relieved to have that difficult and uncertain time behind us – a sentiment I imagine you share. We cannot thank you enough for your business… but going forward, with every item, every delivery, every day, we will do everything we can to show our appreciation. Everyone at Canada Post can now – and will now – focus on giving you the best service possible – and for our parcels and marketing customers, the best holiday season ever. We are proud to serve you, and eager to show you what we can do for your business.
Thank you again – with utmost sincerity – on behalf of everyone at Canada Post.
Serge Pitre VP, Sales"

And looks like clear sailing now until about sometime in 2019, easily enough time to ship out and receive some new plants through that gaping window. dvg
