well, duh, what do they expect, telling people there will be a strike/lockout and they will have to wait for deliveries who knows for how long. i haven't ordered or listed anything on ebay or amazon because there was no point if i couldn't get things delivered. (bet that's good for the economy eh) and i am sure i am not the only one.
as you said, to me it looks a lot like the union can still pull the plug. though they appear to be working hard to keep public favour in their court.
a decline in business by 80% would be doom for anyone else, but they probably figure no matter how they act up, the government is going to bail them out. i mean, we all need to be able to have mail delivered, don't we.
i expect ups and fedex are happy enough with the way things are just now and i just saw an amazon truck making deliveries, which was a first in my neighbourhood....

Even the other companies will be under fire. Canada post's employees will cause trouble everywhere. And i agree with them about what they wants, but this will f**k up my plants order.

Good news, sorta Time to ship out some pending plants! "Negotiations Update Postal service will not be interrupted while talks continue
Dear Canada Post customer,
Canada Post has withdrawn its 72-hour notice, which was to take effect Monday, July 11. As a result, there will be no lockout. We also expect the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) to honour what it has said publicly on many occasions – that they wish to negotiate and have no plans to issue a strike notice.
We therefore expect mail service to continue without interruption, and we feel you can ship with us with confidence. In the event of a strike or lockout, either party has to issue a 72-hour notice and should this occur we would advise you immediately. At that time, we would work with customers to keep them informed and to prevent product from being trapped in the postal system.
Our decision to withdraw our 72-hour notice followed a statement issued by the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, MaryAnn Mihychuk, for both Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to continue their discussions beyond the notice period. The parties now have the opportunity to focus on serious negotiations.
As we focus on that, our thousands of employees will focus on serving you, our customers.
Sincerely,
Serge Pitre Vice-president, Sales Canada Post Corporation"

"Negotiations Update Postal service continues while talks are underway
Dear Canada Post customer,
Discussions between the company and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) continue with the objective of reaching negotiated settlements.
The postal system is open for business while negotiations continue. Mail and parcels are being processed and delivered across the country as normal.
With respect to negotiations, both parties remain at the table. While discussions are underway, we will not be discussing specific issues at the table unless there are significant developments. However, we will continue to keep you updated on a regular basis as we have been throughout this process.
Information related to negotiations can also be found at canadapost.ca/update, where you can sign up for email updates.
Thank you for your business and your patience.
Sincerely,
Serge Pitre Vice-president, Sales Canada Post Corporation"

Here's the latest update:
"Negotiations Update Dear Canada Post customer,
While we continue to talk, progress remains slow; but our resolve to reach tentative agreements without a work disruption has remained.

A strike is still a possibility while the talks continue...
"Negotiations Update Canada Post open for business but little progress in talks
Dear Canada Post customer,
Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers remain at the negotiating table, but progress is discouraging. We remain committed to our goal of reaching agreements that are fair to our employees. At the same time, the agreements must allow us to continue to provide affordable pricing and service to our customers and all Canadians.
First I would like to address some confusion regarding what some believe was a 30-day time-frame to negotiate without a disruption. That was not the case. This confusion may stem from an earlier offer by Canada Post on July 8 to negotiate intensively for 30 days under an extended “cooling off period.” The offer was contingent on both parties agreeing to binding arbitration if they could not reach negotiated settlements within 30 days. The union rejected the offer the same day. Accordingly, August 8 is not a date of significance.
As you know, Canada Post has expressed its strong desire to continue to negotiate without the threat of a lockout. Although CUPW has repeatedly said that they do not intend to strike, a threat of a 72-hour notice to strike is always a very real possibility.
I know these updates are not providing you with the certainty you need to conduct your business. I wish the news could be more encouraging.
Sincerely,
Serge Pitre Vice-president, Sales Canada Post Corporation"

Might need to watch out. I will try to post any updates as soon as they come.
"Negotiations Update Dear Canada Post customer,
Negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) continue and unfortunately we are no closer to a resolution. Over the next ten days, we do expect to see some activity from the union as they attempt to address the expiration of their strike mandate.
The union’s 60-day strike mandate, based on a vote by their membership earlier this year, is set to expire on August 25, 2016. This timeline is set in the Canada Labour Code. Rather than secure the renewed support of their members through a vote, the union is looking at other ways to extend their strike mandate.
Based on options available to CUPW, we can expect a 72-hour strike notice to be issued by the union between now and August 25. This does not necessarily mean that there will be full-scale work disruption associated with the notice, as in a recent bulletin the union reiterated that they do not want to go on strike.
I regret that I cannot provide you with more certainty and greater assurance at this time. My team and I will continue to provide regular and timely updates so that you can make the right decisions for your business.
We remain committed to our goal of reaching agreements that are fair to our employees – and that also allow us to provide the affordable pricing and service on which our customers depend.
Sincerely,
Serge Pitre Vice-president, Sales Canada Post Corporation"
